Help me identify this flywheel, clutch and pressure plate
That may be the stock PP and disk. I had a Fidanza/FM flywheel and the construction was extremely similar to the one you posted. I think mine was a new&improved version of that one possibly. IE-that one's a few years old.

These parts are definitely several years old, this is all the work of the previous owner. I thought it might be the stock pp and disk, but I figured that there would be no way it would hold what I'm throwing at it. Not to mention, I can't see someone just putting a flywheel in and leaving the stock clutch in there with a turbo.
Funny, but I'm 99% sure that's the factory clutch. The one that came out of my 99' looked EXACTLY like that one. I kind of hated to change it as that damn thing was tough! I bet it would hold what I'm throwing at it right now. I'm gonna dig through my camera and see if I happen to have a pic of my factory clutch for comparison.

Yeah, my ACT extreme has better modulation than that mazda clutch did. A lot better. And the ACT doesn't shudder like the mazda did. My mazda clutch had 145k on it when it came out, and it looked great. I thought about not changing it. But I did.
EDIT: Paul did like 310whp on a mazdaspeed clutch.

Here's another question for you. Why did Mazda change the design of the 5-speed transmission case? I'm guessing they did it when they made the NB, but the one I just pulled is definitely different than the one in my 96.
Well, the NB's got a redesigned, more powerful BP in 99'. Very possible they made some changes to the 99' transmission to make it a bit tougher to handle the increase in power while maintaining the same safety factor as with the NA's. Who knows. But if I lost a transmission I'd want one out of a newer car, not an older one, for this reason. For all we know, the 03+ 5 speed is a redesign of the 99' and even stronger.
