Hey there
Well I joined the site a while ago, and never really used it that much. I didn't even lurk really. For some reason I kept going to m.net, until I finally decided that I really didn't want to stick a pencil into my retina, and made this my default miata page. So I figured it's about time for a quick intro.
Details: Bought 90 miata 2002. 3 months later crankshaft sheared off. I bought a factory rebuilt motor for $2800 with long nose. Went through a bunch of other parts - blew up my diff so got a 94 torsen swapped in, did intake exhaust s-afc, etc. Got 119.6 RWHP out of my 1.6, and then decided to turbo it. I made my own kit, and finally got it all installed about 3/4 weeks ago. I had no clue about that small fuel line / #4 cylinder issue. Ended up massively detonating cylinder 4. So my motor with 52,000kms was a complete write off. I got a 1.8 out of a 97, bought the AEM EMS, and will hopefully have it back on the road this Sunday. Then turbo will go back on in about 2 months time, once I get a new manifold made for it.
So now the pictures!
Here's general pics of the car, some are a bit outdated:

And the new stuff:
New motor:
Waiting for motor:
-10AN bung welded onto pan for oil return:
New motor installed:
So yah that's it. Hoping I can contribute here. I work at a performance shop, we have a dyno, do custom fab, etc. Thanks to Spike for PM'ing me about #4 cylinder problem on M.net, really appreciated it.

And I really do like the mainland. My grandfather has a cattle ranch outside of Williams Lake, and Vancouver has so much going on, but the island really is awesome.

Too much boost
Too hot of boost
Hot cylinder 4
Intake air temp sensor not measuring air properly
Small fuel line with 440 injectors, that were running really fat
... I'm sure there's more. The motor was also suspect as well. A year and a bit ago we tuned it in at 119.6, then 5 months ago we put it back on the dyno and I was only registering 94. We changed the plugs and I got up to 96, but still way low. Compression was good... so I started replacing thing with spare parts i had, did the toyota COP conversion, removed AFC, and never really got the power back. Decided to throw a turbo on and see what happened. Guess I found out

It's funny, I get about a 50/50 response on the flames. Half the people I talk to love them, the other half hate them. I respect everyone's opinions, but I did the exterior of my car for my benefit only. If people like it then awesome, if they don't, well that's cool to. One customer of mine who is a strange dude hates them, he went out one day and started peeling one side off. I was pretty angry.

No worries man. Like I'm also at the point, where if I did a paint job, or one of them got ripped off or something, I wouldn't replace them. They've been on for... about 4 or 5 years at least, so I would just move on to something different. Of course I'm sure the paint will have perma-flame shadows on them though, so that's one good reason for leaving them on

Yah I simplified everything up top, but it was a combination of things. My wastegate reference wasn't working properly, and I boost spiked to 16lbs at 4500rpm. My intake air temp sensor was in a horrible spot, we had just fattened up the fuel curve a ton because the car was running super lean, and my air/water intercooler wasn't set up yet. The dyno was running of the wastegate reference, and it was only showing about 2 lbs of boost. The car had just sat for about 15 minutes to cool down, and we just did a quick run to see what was going on. I was watching my boost gauge inside the car while my boss monitored air/fuel, and then kaboom. So here's a list of the potentials:

Oh, you that guy on m.net that had the same story, right? Sounds familiar.

Hell no!
Have you not been watching the news? Everyday for the last seven days there has been people killed in shoot outs in parking lots, resturaunts and in the middle of the streets,in ******* broad daylight, one of the shootings took place in a busy gas station(two people shooting at each other in SUV's).
I was listening to the radio on my way to my neighbors shop and they annouced there was another shoot out again today.

And give it about 5 years, and Victoria will be in a similar boat. I've lived my life here, and more and more there are gangs showing up. So many little thugs walking around, who don't have the ***** to do anything yet, but it will get there.

The problem is,the entire lower mainland is run by orginized crime, the ******* crooks have the cops and politicians in there back pocket.Vancouver was voted the highest crime rate and murder capital in all of Canada.....worse than Toronto.
Innocent people have been killed, nothing was done about it.The only way I see them doing anything about it is,when a politicain's family member gets killed by a stray bullet during a shooting crossfire.

Figured I'd update the status of my car here. So the car is all turbo'd and it's happy times:
I got to take it on the drag strip a couple of times, with my best being a 14.4, which I'm somewhat happy with. Unfortunately my insurance ran out August 17th, and since I'm transferring from College to University this september, I figured it deserved a good rest. Here is what I've done to the car already since it got parked in my garage:
1. Removed flames
2. Sold wheels + tires
3. Removed Gizzmo boost controller (I switched to AEM EMS built in boost control)
4. Ordered Konig Retrack 15x7.5 +32 wheels
Here is what else I'm planning on doing until it comes back on the road in April:
1. Buy tires
2. Coolant reroute (m-tuned)
3. Remove flyin miata 1.6-1.8 throttle body adapter and install 1.8 throttle body
4. Aluminum radiator
5. New wastegate
6. 2.5" exhaust (current 2.25)
That should set me up well for race season next year. I'll post some pics up once the wheels arrive.
