So I replaced my rear rotors and pads yesterday, and found that my driver side rear caliper had seized. I went and bought a new caliper, and decided I'd hook up my e-brake cable to that side (was disconnected because arm had seized about 6 months earlier). I hooked it up, and pulled the ebrake handle, and the cable snapped (to the driver side). It was a crazy old cable, so no big deal. Today I bought a new cable, installed it, and adjusted the rear brakes again with the little hex screw. Now the e-brake works, but just barely. If i'm not a bit of an incline, the car still rolls back, and I have the handle cranked. I'm thinking that quite possible, the front cable (which the two cables hook up to) is stretched. When I pull the handle up, it gets very stiff for about half way, and then gets looser (still stiff). When I release the park brake from the high point, when it hits the half way mark, it gets stiff (like slushy, not wanting to go back down).

Any suggestions? Should I just replace that front cable and see? Anything else I might be missing? I also adjusted the mounting point on the caliper so that it's the farthest out. Before that the e-brake couldn't keep the car stopped on any incline.

try tightening the adjustment screw on the handbrake lever.

 

I have the same problem on my car.. no matter what I do my e-brake stops working after a month or so.. It almost seems like my rear brake pads only stay properly adjusted for that long...
I havent really had time to dink with it.

 

sounds like a stretched cable. At least it isn't that big a problem.
