OK so I just picked up a whole rear subframe out of a 96 with only 60K. The plan is to just swap the whole rear subframe as a whole onto my 91.

Well I noticed a small problem. My 91 has ABS(yea I know it sucks) and the 96 didn't have ABS. My original game plan was to just pull the fuse on my ABS(since I hate the unit anyway) and just run the non ABS axles in the rear. Then at a later date, remove the whole ABS system from the car. This was the game plan until someone mentioned they did it to there car and had issues bleeding the brakes due to air getting caught in the ABS unit.

Well so far the different options I been told I can do:

A) just run it by removing the ABS fuse and the one case was just a freak..
B) try and find somewhere locate that has ABS axles and see if I can swap out for my non-ABS
C) someone mentioned swapping my outer ends from my 1.6. The person who informed me of this, said he believed Brainack did this.

I need options from so of the wise ones.

 

you have to open the cv boot and disconnect the wheel hub section of the axles, then swap the ones with the abs gears over.

Im not sure about the 1-piece axles, but it should be the same diameter and splines.

 

Question, Did you swap over the to the ABS because you had to, as in would cause some problem such as the air in the unit, or such. Or did you swap it over cause you wanted to keep the ABS?

 

you have to swap it over or the ABS light stays on. Since I had ABS, there was no reason not to keep using it.

 

If the only real issue I will have is just the ABS light then I don't care. I dislike the ABS on my car. On newer cars I don't mind ABS but I have noticed any older car early 90s and back, the ABS just sucks to me. I feel as if I am fighting the ABS the whole time instead of it helping to stop me. Either way, I just want to make sure I won't have issues with say air getting trapped in the ABS unit or anything like that.

I kinda figured that my ABS light would come on, but wasn't worried about it.

 

then it doesnt matter for you and you can pull the bulb.
