In June I will be going to Barber motorsports park for a drivers education three day event in Birmingham. I've ordered new brake pads (front/rear) and new front rotors. I also ordered a FM proportioning valve kit. I'll be running my street tires. My big question is about my suspension setup. Ive got 9 way adjustable shocks on each corner. What setting are you running at the track, and in what configuration? All for corners set the same? Front and back different? How stiff?

All I can say is....... DON'T SET A FOOT/WHEEL/HAND/TOE/EXHAUST FUME on the grass....you'll have an invoice in your hand before you take your next breath

But in all honesty, you really have to feel what the car is doing before just "setting it up". We can all tell you how we have our cars setup, but that just means our setup fits our driving style and any advice is only that. I have my sways set to full stiff, the shocks set to full stiff and run 35psi cold on a custom alignment.... but that doesn't mean it'll work for you.

 

KYB adjustable shocks are only 8 positions, at least mine are. Just put it on full stiff call it good, that's what myself and a few others I know who have the same shocks do.

As always, to tune out understeer and over steer, you can make many changes to shocks, springs, tires, and sway bars.

This is your first track day, no? If so, I honestly wouldn't worry about it. Like I said, set them all to the highest setting and go learn your *** off. You'll be so freaking busy learning everything about racing and the track, you won't notice any of the little handling problems of your car. Some people might on their first track day, but you're starting with a Miata, so you're already ahead of the game

 

Thanks for the tips. Sounds like a plan. I'll put on full stiff. Learning is primary goal. I'm not even going to put my r-comps on. I think it will be more beneficial to learn to drive the car with street tires. As I gain experience. I might move to different tires for the track later. Since this is my first time, I'm gonna try to not blow up engine, wreck car, or owe track too much money.
