Default egr delete

on my 94, the turbo manifold doesnt have an egr bung, so i dont use the egr system, the crossover tube is cut and crimped on the intake manifold. the only time the cel comes on is cruising in low rpms. i can live with that, but ive been trying to figure out how to get it to not come on. ive done a bunch of searching to no avail. ive looked at the resistor mod and im trying to figure it out, so i can remove the valve and use some blanking plates on the intake manifold. the egr valve uses a resistor and normally with the car off its 2.7K ohms. if i figure out the resistance of when it is "open" i could put that resistor in there, right? there are 3 wires, and is tied into throttle position also. anyone know where im going with this? got any info that could help?

I deleted the EGR pipe and valve at the intake manifold too and used some block off plates I made of aluminum. First time I tried to start, no dice. Connected the laptop and apparantly it went into flood clear as throttle indicated WOT. I pulled the connector of the valve and plugged it back into the harness and ziptied it out of the way. No more tps problems.

ok, im using emu, as far as i know ( im a noob at emu) theres nothing to control the egr with it. so far, i have removed the solenoids for it, but what your saying is remove the black plastic triangular part on top of the valve and plug it back into the harness? what if i fab a bracket to hold that pin down? that way its always "open" so when everything is just right, rpm, throttle, temp, it sees its open and voila, no check engine light? in theory, right?

As long as you have the stock ECU, I would expect an EGR code to pop up.

I recently deleted by EGR pipe, but left the solenoid intact. Running on a stock ECU, I get an EGR code. If I re-install my Xede, no EGR code. Can't explain that one...

yeah, thats what ive concluded. but from what ive read, if your egr isnt hooked up, you dont want it to work right because it adjusts timing. so. i spose ill live with the check engine light.

Default EGR Delete

I have a simple solution for the EGR situation. My email is Turbobarber@yahoo.com if you're interested. I'll try to post some pics in the next few days, but I rarely even have time to do the searches to solve my own problems let alone post -thus my lack of posting.

Hope I am able to help.

The stock ECU EGR system measures MAP to tell if there is flow on the EGR valve. (At least on the OBDII cars) So blocking the manifold port and keeping the solenoid isn't enough to keep the CEL at bay. I have heard of people leaving the port open, such that air flows when the solenoid is open. Haven't tried that for myself yet though....

I heard this from Datun510man (Bill). I haven't tried it myself. His instructions were to cut the cross over tube and put a small valve cover breather filter on it near the EGR valve. The EGR valve will take in fresh air instead of exhaust and the ECU wont throw a code.

Hmm, I will be deleting my EGR soon. Looking for ways to get around the code.

I will be running only a MS, and should not have any emissions testing, but just in case I need to put the stock ECU back in I would like to not have any codes.

Looks like I'll have to try this, unless someone can confirm/deny before I do it.

If you don't want to cut the EGR tube, you can make a blocking plate and thread a hose barb on it and place the filter on the barb. That EGR tube doesn't come cheap from Mazda.

99mx5, all i got left is a crimped nub off of the intake manifold. lol. if i have enough to work with, ill use it, if not, ill get a blocking plate made. the only thing that concerns me is doesnt the ecu adjust timing when using the egr? i spose under the conditions the egr should be open, it couldnt adjust timing enough to make problems other than bad fuel mileage?

I removed my EGR pipe (2) years ago and made a blank off plate like everyone else and got a code from the stock ecu. When I installed the EMB code went away...................... Thats been two years ago.

so what did you hook back up the entire assembly or did you just leave the hose disconected?

Hrm. My post is very legit. Obviously I really just don't post much. Time is very hard to come by. It appears though I may have to post. I'm having a bit of a problem myself, which I was beginning to think was related to my EGR fix, but to my disappointment it is not. Infact I have no idea where my problem is coming from now. But - I was interested in sharing my fix.
