Default Oil smell in high vac

What could be causing it?

Car has 170k miles, never used a drop of oil but now it's going through more than a quart between changes, and I get a burning oil smell on decel, whenever I pull more vacuum than I would at idle.

Compression numbers are 185, 175, 160, 175. I doubt it's burning in the cylinders anyway, otherwise I wouldn't really smell it while I was in the car, would I?

I don't really know where to start looking, I can't see anything obvious, and I don't know how imitate the problem such that I can see the problem.

Subscribed for resultz. I get it in vac after going high boost, especially after re-applying throttle. I'm thinking mine is just straight ring blow-by. I will know in a month, motor coming out.

Sorry for jacking your thread, man. I'm a dick, and admission is the first step in recovery.

I think that we might be talking about the same thing, here, though. I'm total sweet newbjuice when it comes to turboz (Corky's book on order), but I'm thinking that what y8s is talking about is that the turbo oil seals are under the same effective vac as are the stem seals. So if these are compromised, oil could be pulled from here, as well. I am hesitant to do any service on the turbo seals, as they are inboard of the compressor and turbine. When doing a full engine refresh, is it good insurance to send the turbo out to get it freshened up, as well? Who to send it to, Garrett (if applicable), or the vendor it came from (FM, begi, etc)? What does this normally cost? Any quick way to see if this is the problem? Are you guaranteed to get shaft endplay or radial wobble if the seals are shot?

Well, I went to the garage today, and they don't have a leak down tester so I couldn't do a leak down test. So far it's the only tool they haven't had when I needed it. I'm not sure where I'll find one on a limited budget, but does anybody have any other suggestions in the mean time?

My IC pipes are clean and dry so I don't think my turbo is blowing oil.

if it smokes after idling for a while, it could be turbo seals I mean.

I have never seen any smoke coming from anywhere, which makes it all the more baffling.
