So i was polishing some things last night and some freon leaked out of my A/C system. About 10seconds before i had it re-capped. Scared the **** out of me!

Anyways, will this effect the car at all? I searched and saw that it might affect the clutch? Obviously ill probly have to recharge the a/c but anything other than that???

I think he means the A/C clutch.

 

It's the oil that's vital to the system. The refrigerant only does the cooling part. Does it still blow cold? Yes=do nothing, No=charge it.

 

Yes, oil = super important. I froze my compressor that way on an '88 chevy which uses one belt for everything. If you're worried about it, take the belt off.

Not all 90s use r12.

 

i was talking early nineteen ninetys. which early model miata didn't use r12? it was the standard refirgerent till emissions forced the auto makers to use 134a in the mid ninetys you need a lincense to buy and sell r12 these days.

 

I have a pound of virgin R12 I am willing to part with for the right price, pm me if you want it.

 

I'm driving a 90 right now that has a complete system built from original r12 components running 134. OP just needs to confirm what refrigerant he has in his system before he recharges.

 

Depends on the year of car, but I'd just have it converted to R134 and be done with it. Don't vent it to the atmosphere, have a shop do the conversion. They have to cleanse the condenser and evaporator of the R12, you can't just empty the system and recharge.
