Default Intake manifolds for Japanese 01+ 1.8L ???

So I was watching a Best Motoring video and they showed an underhood shot of a 1.8RS and I noticed the intake manifold looked a lot different. Now I'm trying to figure out what it is and what is different.

I'll post more pics if I can find them. It seems to be found on the RS 1.8L NB2 Miatas in Japan.

Some others I found while looking for pics...

Can't really see from the pics but could it just be a NA non VICS manifold drilled to fit the NB head?

It's just the VVT manifold isn't it. that didn't come with VICS IIRC.

Also has the dampner of power (not pictured)

I'm going to guess whatever manifold that is on the white NB is something unique to the 1800 RS. Any 1600/NB6C engine pictures I found had the same old 1.6 intake manifold we are used to. The regular 1.8 engine pics I found all had the "normal" intake manifold (with the top half of the manifold having 4 distinct runners). The manifold in question seems to have a larger plenum on the top half.

Yep that looks different :s

I never really realised until now how much room you NB guys save by not having the silly flippy headlights and associated mechanisms.

it was originally rated at 150 something but later dropped to 144 or thereabouts.

VTCS doesn't add power, it only works when the car is cold.

This would explain why i was not able to find the vtcs actuator. Maybe is placed on a different spot in my manifold.

I'm not sure if this manifold would provide any benefits, doppel let us know if you find some info.

Well, I'd like to know what the inside of that manifold looks like. That will determine if it's a worthwhile part to track down.

Here is a pic I snapped of the VTCS actuator on the 2001+ manifolds. It's the bronzy/goldish circle that is buried deep in the picture. Does you intake manifold not have that Ismael?

I still have to upgrade my injectors, so I can take a few pictures.

The manifold in the picture is the usdm version (look at the top half), mine is different and the actuator isn't in this location, in fact I can't find it!

See, I don't think it's a JDM-USDM thing. I think it's a specific model of JDM cars that have the intake manifold in question. I've been able to find plenty of pictures of "JDM" 1.8L engines with the intake manifold like the one I posted. The only cars I could find with the "odd" intake is any 1.8L "RS" version. Since you're not in the states, you may be able to clarify this to a greated extent. But looking though CarLife..most 1.8L and the MSM have the "normal" intake manifold (th eone with the 4 humps on the upper half).

I actually just picked one up to fit to my MK1 today.

What do you want to see/have pictures of?

This is just as I dropped it off in my garage
