Default Quaife gear set build 2nd gear sycro question

Hi all

Quaife catalogue states its for 1994 onwards while FM says/e mailed that any year and recomends 1995 syncros for the re-bulid.

My box is 1992 and the 2nd gear (part 17.250 has a intergated cone) and a seperate syncro (part 17.265). The Quaife 2nd has no intergarated cone and looks the same as the 17.250 2nd gear from a 1994 with a 17-26Y syncro. This is based on looking at all the tec manuals on www.miata.net garage.

The main and lay shafts are the same part numbers across the years 1990 - 2000 except the lay shafts on the early boxes 1990 - April 1995 has a circlip while the Quaife has no provision for one to be fitted.

The the questions are does anyone know if FM are right;

Can the later 17-26Y syncro be reto fitted to the earlier box.
(The rest of the syncro seem to be the same?)

Is the Circlip essential and are there any other differences I need to know about.

Anybody had similar issues.

Or should I simply go and find a 1995 to 1998.

Thanks Andy

Go find the right box. You paid $3k for the gearset, don't screw it up because you didn't want to pay 5% of that for the right gearbox to start with.

On to it as we speak. Simplest solution just pissed off I'd gone to all the trouble of cleaning the dammed thing up!

Thanks

Doing it right is rarely easy, but it is rewarding.
