So I just put in my new engine and I'm tuning it,but one little problem. I put in a Stage 3 puck and all that. Checked everything to make sure it worked right. When I'm at idle I'm at 1000RMP's and running good, but when I depress the clutch not even trying to put it in gear the RPM's drop 500 and sometimes kills the car. Why? Is this standard for this style clutch and it will go away after break in? Bare in mind I only have 41 miles on the engine and clutch. But WHATS GOING ON HERE?

Check endplay on the crank before anything else (easiest thing to check, but with the worst consequences), anything over 0.010" and I'd be concerned. Good Luck

 

Check the wiring on the transmission. Sounds like you left the neutral switch disconnected. If the neutral switch is bad and you don't have cruise control, you can bypass the switch on the clutch or just connect the two wires going to the neutral switch to each other.

 

From a purely mechanical standpoint ^this would be what I'd be worried about and checking.

It could be the neutral switch shutting it down but I'd think it would kill it every time rather than once in a while. Definately the cheap/easy thing to check and fix though.

Check the switch, if that's ok then check the crank endplay.

 

OP - Be sure not to post what the outcome was so that others won't benefit from the thread...

 

I had this happen and it was a wiped out thrust bearing on crank/ruined engine. Check endplay asap and carefully if you have this issue, maybe you can save it before you circulate iron chunks in vital lubricant.
