need help removing EMB from a 94
I am removing EMB from a 1994 Miata (non-turbo) and I am having a bit of an issue, the car starts but it will not run.
The EMB had a spliced in harness which looked pretty clear with removing splices and plugging together the two interrupted wires that seemed to be going through the EMB (I am guessing input and EMB modified output).
However I am having an issue with a black wire that is connected to the outside wires of the two grey (on the outside) thick wires with a colored core. Any thoughts on how to untangle this from the pros?
Thanks

images:
0116 shows the outer wires in grey that were spliced
0017 shows the spliced wires connected (through the white thingimajig to the solid black wire in the wiring harness)
0018 shows an empty pinout in the harness plug
Thanks in advance for the help.
Mike.

Thank you, I am guessing the unmodified harness does not do that. So the black wire is ground? Does it need to be attached anywhere to the ecu? Any ideas on why the motor would not run with the emb removed? It does start.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.
Thanks.
Ok, so the shielding is connected to the black ground wire. Got it.
That seems like a reasonable thing to do. The car starts but does not run. It ran with the EMB jumped to do nothing, so it must have something to do with the wiring.
Hmm. And here I thought this was going to be simple.

I will check the fuel pump when I get home, but the cut CAS wire (I am assuming its CAS as it was the only cut wire) was cut and had male/female plug fittings on it that plugged into the EMB harness. I just plugged it together. I wonder if the connection is not great - will add some dielectric gel in the fitting.
BTW, what would it mean if the fuel pump was not running? (This seems plausible as the car starts right away and immediately dies).

just that. it could be that it's priming with key on so it will start up, then just die right out since it's not constantly running.
try jump FP and GND in the diagnostics box and see if it runs like that.
