Default Engine Belt question( noob question)

I will be rebuilding an engine soon, and I am just wondering if getting high quality belts are better for booted engines or can I stick with the same old regular brand timing belts, a/c belts, etc.

thanks for your input

Depends on how much boost.

I would not worry so much about accessory belts. It is not likely you will throw one, and it is not going to have the potential catastrophy like loosing a timing belt.

There are high quality timing belts available if you end up building a serious motor.

Stock motors are non interference, meaning that if the cam timing goes out of sink, the valves will not collide with the pistons. However, in some cases, it could build unusually high cylinder preasure (briefly) which can cause some problems.

If you put a big cam in, then you could have a valve to piston collision if the belt breaks.

Edit: Also different pistons could have different domes or valve reliefs causing collision, even with a stock cam.

Meh. My alternator belt is stock and it doesn't care. I don't have AC/PS anymore so I don't have to worry about them either.

If your goal is 250hp or less I would stick with a stock belt.
