Newbie here.

Just bought an NB chassis MIATA.

I would like to lower my car like 2" in front and about 2.5 to 3" at the back using coilovers.

I found a 2nd hand NA TEIN coilover at our local surplus shop for about $500 USD from JAPAN but I was wondering if it will fit directly with the NB chassis.

Teins like just about every after market set up will fit na/nb the same. Could have just looked up the part numbers as saw it was listed for both bodies.

 

I thought the upper mounts were different. Isn't that why na guys have to swap to nb mounts to use nb coil overs. Plus it gives more travel keeping the nb mounts.......isn't that y flying miata gives the option to na guys when purchasing their vmaxx coil over setup?

 

Individually, most components of the shock / spring system are incompatible between NA and NB. The differences have to to with the thread at the top of of the shock rod (where it interfaces with the tophat) and the design of the spring (if using stock-style springs.)

But the interface between the tophat and the chassis, and between the bottom of the shock and the lower control-arm, is compatible between the two generations.

Thus, a complete assembly (shock, spring and tophat all together) is freely interchangeable between NA and NB.


So long story short, if your TEIN setup is complete from top to bottom, then yes, it will physically fit on either car. In fact, when you purchase a complete coilover system such as this, they sell you the exact same package regardless of the year of your car.

3" drop.. why not just remove the springs?

 

Well, I don't know if how low it can be lowered for the new shoes to fit in and to look nice. But I'm guessing 2" at the back will be fine from stock height.

Anyway, it will be just my wife's weekend car. So performance will not be as important given its an automatic also.

I thought it was made by TEIN but actually after I made an visual inspection this morning found out it was made by TANABE sustec pro coilovers and bought right away for $370 USD.

I was wondering if the dampening and rebound on this particular shocks are adjustable as I dont see any adjusting ***** compared to my TRD coilovers fitted on my other car (EP82 starlet 286HP 11.67sec. on 1/4mile).
