Ok So I thought I got everything I needed to convert my 1.6 to 1.8 brakes.
I have front caliper/disc
rear disc,rear end, drive shaft
And one rear caliper but I missing the other.
Can i use the 1.6 rear caliper on the 1.8 rear hub?

 

to upgrade to 1.8 brakes all you need is brackets, pads and rotors.
to upgrade to 1.8 diff all you need is differential, drive shaft and axles.

 

So the rear caliper from my 1.6 rear will bolt to the 1.8 rear spindel. No problem?

 

When you say bracket. What bracket for the rear?

 

The calipers are the same 1.6 to 1.8 the only change was the bracket that holds the pads, the pads, and the rotor the bracket dictates which pads will fit. The bracket is the part that bolts to the rear upright. An upgrade from that is to use sport brake calipers that have 1.375" pistons instead of 1.25". They can be used on any of the caliper brackets but have to be modified a bit if you use them with 1.6l brackets and pads.

Ok so i am screwed. i do not have a rear driver side Bracket for the 1.8.

Do i look for them in junk yards or what?

This is great info, thanks Bob. For everyone else, the Sport rear pads are *significantly* more expensive. In the long run, you are better off with the M-Tuned rear BRK, 1.8 brackets, and a Sport caliper, than you would be with the Sport caliper alone - the cheaper 1.8 pads will pay for the BRK in less than 2 sets.

 

Yes I am using Sport calipers with 1.6l brackets and pads. I ground a bit on the calipers so they didn’t interfere with the backing plates on the 1.6l pads. I think it's about the same amount of grinding to fit standard 1.8l pads.

FWIW the 1.6l brackets are like 1/2 lb. lighter than other brackets. normally the brackets dictate which size rotors they fit but I have adapters made to fit 11.44" rear rotors with 1.6l brackets. The sprot calipers by themselves are ~1/2 lb hevier than non sport calipers they are thicker and stiffer.
