I do believe this was used for a dip stick on the FWD cars using the Miata motor/block.

Yep, we had to take care of that hole on the pump I ordered for my ride.

 

silicone?
epoxy?
or the plug that sav mentioned?

 

I say invest in a cheap tap set from HB and do it right.
