I'm waiting to see what is said, but it looks like they found enough evidence to call it a sure thing. Way to go to the men and women at CERN. Too bad we don't care enough in this country. It could have been found here.

Scientists to unveil proof of

Not that it wasn't already pretty much a sure thing, but it was only theorized before, whereas now we have actual evidence pointing towards what was theorized all along. Big day for science and for humanity.

Fake article. Immediate giveaway is "god particle" no one in the scientific community refers to it as that. The rest was debunked.

I know, I was disappointed as well.

We will see Wednesday what they say. Like I said, I'm playing wait and see. But any advancement in this field is big. If they are significantly closer, that's great.

Perhaps I worded that wrong. There were tons of article released immediately after the rumors started (last 24 hours). There has no been no definitive release of information from the people at CERN. But anything that reads "god particle" should not be taken seriously.

They are waiting till Wednesday to come out with anything, and the use of the term "god particle" is by the media, who knows no better. So I don't see why that matters.

For something like this, I think it really matters. This could be immense. Until I get to read or watch what CERN has to say, I doubt/question everything I am reading on the subject.

They've already confirmed the Boson to at or beyond 4.3 sigma.

For anyone but climate "skeptics" and scientists, that's typically more than enough proof of existence.

That's one of the things that sucks about this level of science. The average Joe can't comprehend it, so it almost exists in the realm of magic to them. What they can't grasp, they don't believe (except when it comes to religion). I too am handling this with caution and will wait to see what they say. But as already established, it's already pretty much a sure thing anyway. Just now maybe they will have something more definitive that hopefully laymen can comprehend and see with their own eyes and not have to take the word of voodoo magic physicists.

It will get you bring all the boys to your yard.

I am siding with Viper on this one. Until the official announcement is made by CERN tomorrow I am going be extremely skeptical of all the articles that are being published.

And some better info regarding the naming.

It's at the very least a particle that matches very closely to what was expected in the standard model. So even if it's not the Higgs boson, it's a new particle we haven't seen. Still an exciting find either way.

I am aggravated by the title "god" particle.

It is only believed to impart mass to an object, but it has not been proved. It creates nothing, it simply moves mass/energy around. It's a particle folks, big whoop.

That means there's a 1 in 5,000 chance they're wrong...

5000:1 odds of being right on something? not bad if you ask me.

I don't think there's 5000:1 odds that I can spell my name correctly.

The chance of them being wrong is higher than the chance of me winning the lottery

It's also higher than the chance of me getting struck by lightning

Unrelated photo is unrelated:

They're more likely to be wrong than I am to die in a car accident today

People die in car accidents, win the lottery, and get struck by lightning every day!!
