so i had a successful exhintake instal along with a super duper custom air intake..pics on request.
my question now is: why does this engine seem to run best with the ignition timing completely maxed out?? no signs of detonation at all..i backed it out just a couplr deg. just because this is strange.
any thoughts?
197.5 on the cam..afm is after the filter and no leaks. just for the nerds, i measured the intake pressure in the area where air is being picked up from @ about 1/10th to 1/20th of a p.s.i., in the cowl/ wiper area.
definitely picked some mental horsepower...yeah

I also have a built 94 motor with exhintake cam that I swapped in this weekend.
Max timing on the cas will only read 12 degress with timing light. (Is something wrong here?)
I am getting some pinging at light throttle around 3000 rpm.
I am not sure if this is because of the slight vacuum hiss around intake manifold that needs to be looked at.
Or old fuel... (3 months old, but it was 94 octane)
Or possibly clogged fuel filter.
Or I need an MS with a tune? 84mm 8.6 supetech, stock ECU will be able to run this, no?

how are you measuring your timing? under what conditions?
If you're on stock ECU, looking with a timing light at idle, without timing jumper - that sounds almost normal. Nothing wrong with idling at 20*

also the rubber damper could have moved on its axis (meaning it should be replaced).
