Read title, thought of this.
For cheap tires, I like my Falken 912's. Assymmetric for easy cross rotation, pretty grippy for hard rubber. I think I paid like $350.
Reminds me of the people who ask why a couple of degrees is such a big deal in alignments. Or our internet provider, who boasts 99% uptime. Which means they're only down for 3.65 days per year.

Only 1% difference.
fun fact:
my 4 stockers are all the same brand/size. all have roughly the same tread except 1 of them. its near new. the car torque steers dramatically. I think "no way can this be real" swap tire and it torque steers the other way. This happens whether its on front or back.
crazy stuffz

Now that's curious. All the stuff I read hypothesized that it was a consequence of the Torsen sending more torque to the side that had more grip. But if it also happens with a mismatched pair at the front, then it can't just be the Torsen.
I'll agree that it's amazing how distinct the torque-steer sensation is. I could stomp the throttle at highway speed and watch the left front fender raise up and to the left. Off throttle, the car drifted back and to the right.

I couldn't help but notice that it appears said goat has a metal ***** with which it is attempting to penetrate the vehicle.

I just found out my WRX has 225/50/17s on it instead of 225/45/17s.
Might explain why they rub at full lock when I'm reversing out of the parking lot of the grocery store.
