I am just wondering if there has been any updates in regards to satisfaction on your Mishimoto radiator and fan installs. The last thread was updated in 2010 and I haven't seen anything since then.

Any updates?

 

I have a Mishi rad and fan shroud on my '99, and a Mishi rad in my AC Cobra replica (uses BMW E36 stuff), and they're both nice pieces. i'd buy another.

 

The fans are largely not up to the task of handling a miata. The radiators are fine, as are the shrouds.

You can get identical setups for under $200 from Ebay. Then just load the shroud with good fans. Roll.

 

My Mishimoto has been great.

 

My mishi rad fans and shroud have been working fine. I had to wire the fans in to both come on instead of just the one, but i figure that's expected.

Fans are well more than powerful enough to handle our miata problems.

It does overcool though. If i drive my car on the highway in anything below 40F i will touch warmup enrichment.

 

That's not a radiator problem unless you have like... a 140F tstat.

Mazduh and I both had problems with the supplied fans not keeping up. His issues went away with putting stock fans back on. (Showing that stock fans were superior) Mine went away with an FM Stage 1 airflow kit.

Worth mentioning that both of us had MSMs.

 

190F stat... I don't know, or really care what the problem is. The car doesn't see much cold temperatures.

It did it with and without the reroute, with the old and the new t stat.. So whatever.

You must of had fan issues, my mishi fans are way more than sufficient. My stock fans were super slow and sucked. Just feeling the difference in air speed is extremely noticeable. I'm not nuttswinging on their fans either. I probably overpaid. I'm sure i could have gotten an ebay set just as good for much less money.

 

Worth mentioning that MSM fans are stronger than "normal" Miata fans, I suppose.

 

I think MSM's have better fans my stock fans seem to move quite a bit of air you can feel the air flow it suck a piece of paper inward if you hold it in front of the opening in the bumper.

 

Stock 95 fans will do the same thing on a CX Racing radiator with a .25-.38" gap between the fans and radiator.

 

I don't think i've ever seen fans that DIDN'T do that.

Unless they weren't on.

 

Have my mishi for a year and a half now and pretty satisfied with it.
Though if you are tracking the car don't expect it to solve overheating.
Gotta see how my new reroute works come summer.

 

Bought mine winter 2012 after I blew the stocker. I had to installed a porous plate and removed the undertray for winter because it would cool a little too well on the highway.

Post turbo: Many spirited curvy 30 minute backroad romps, and many trips back and forth to TN proves the radiator seems to work very well. I'm not due for a track day until April and June to see how well it really does.

 

Well, I am seeing temperatures touching 204 degrees (before the fans come on) on the highway in 60 degree ambient temps with the new radiator. I believe my thermostat is working properly because until the radiator gets heatsoaked(?) my temps hover in the 185 degree range, but once I have been driving enough for the temps in the radiator to pick up it can get quite warm. I haven't seen over 205 degrees though.

I notice that in some driving conditions (maybe wind direction?) the radiator has no problem keeping it at 188 degrees but in others I am struggling to keep it below 200. This tells me that my problem is that the cool air isn't really making it through the radiator efficiently.

Btw, I believe fan#1 comes on at 203 degrees and fan#2 comes on with A/C or at 205 degrees.

To me, it's nearly impossible that my Mishimoto 55mm radiator is performing only as well as my stock 15mm (or so) radiator. This means that the problem isn't the radiator.

I'm not really seeing any problems here besides your rather closely spaced fan triggers.

Is there a problem that you're trying to fix?

 

What temps do you have your fans turn on?

What temps do you feel are the acceptable range for highway cruising?

 

I believe i usually set fan "A" for "on at 200, off at 190" and fan "B" "on at 210, off at 200 OR when a/c is on."

I'd have to look. Either way, that's pretty tight.

205 cruising sounds not terrible to me. I'd rather that than cruise at 180.

 

Ok, my fans used to be set far lower. I raised them based on some stuff I read here but that was celcius and I was maybe being a bit lazy. I just installed the new 1.4 alpha code so I have some tweaking to make sure everything is kosher but i'll let you know.

Btw, 205 is when the fans really started cooling. I don't know how far it would have gone if the fans didn't come on. I am tempted to raise one to 210 and the other to 215 as a test just to see how well the radiator cools on the highway.

 

Do you have an undertray?

Basically you seem to be asking if a Miata will cool itself with no fans at highway speeds? I think the answer would be "no," without lots and lots of ducting. Especially a turbo car with an intercooler blocking the radiator.

 

Installed Mishimoto Radiator in Juneish 2011. Had to submit a warranty claim by Jan. 2012 for a pinhole leak. Their warranty response was quick to get me a new radiator without any hassle. But, it sucked having to change a radiator in the snow because of a simple cheap quality failure. So this time around I decided to save $100 and went with a cxracing version. No warranty but we will see if it holds up any longer or better.
