I've been running these pads for a while and I've been pretty happy with them besides the dust but the fronts are pretty much done. Problem is, I can't find a vendor with these in stock for the life of me. I know the name has changed a few times, is there one I haven't found yet? Have they simply pulled the pad from the market? Or most importantly, am I just an idiot who can't even look up a simple part online?

Really old-school pad, there are much better comparable options nowadays. I wouldn't be suprised if they were discontinued (edit: apparently they are still available)

I ran ultimates back in the day when I was just autocrossing. Honestly, they aren't amazing.. Much more dust than the oem pad and not really that much better. The genuine Mazda oem pad is actually quite good for daily/autox use if you aren't boosted, and dusts less to boot. If you do need something with a little more bite/heat capacity that isn't a track-level pad, I would personally run Hawk HP+ over ultimates.

I won't disagree that the OEM pads are fine for auto-x, because they certainly are. I just don't like the the feel of them. The Ultimates do dust, like crazy, but it cleans off very very easily. Plus, they're dead silent which is a big plus on a DD and the main reason I haven't run the HP+.

 

Have you tried the StopTech Street Performance pads? Love those pads. $32 at Rock Auto for fronts. WAAAYYYY better than HP+ (I've tracked both).

 

Thanks for the tip! I'm trying to find a decent dual purpose pad that's available for both a 2007 Mazda 6 and a 1990 MX6. ****'s hard.

 

I've run them at MSR-C doing 1:29s on the turbo car. No fade issues whatsoever, consistent feel. MSR-C is easy on brakes though. I've heard from others that a better pad is needed at hard-braking tracks like Sebring and ECR. Driving style may be a factor too.

But, they're cheap.

 

How's the noise and bite?

 

Bite is on par with HP+ and doesn't seem to change with temp. Better than OEM.

Noise is really low. Sometimes I'll hear something when backing. Hardly ever anything when going forward.

 

Boo hiss. Can't find the Stoptech Streets for the MX6 rear. :(

 

Anyone who says ULTs dust like crazy hasn't used a real pad.

ULTs are GREAT street pads.

which reminds me, if anyone wants a set of HP+s that were replaced with ULT, PM me.

 

Still can't find a vendor with ULT's in stock . I'll try those stop tech pads, at that price, I can afford to toss em if they suck.

 

I spend a good amount of time following hornetball around on this site and echoing his statement on the StopTechs. I've been running them for about a year now and am also happy with them. They're civil - dusting is more than stock but reasonable and easy to clean, no squeal except occasionally when backing up, and work well cold - but they get more impressive as they heat up. I haven't managed to overheat them on my beta-level lapping sessions.

For the money they cost, it's very hard to go wrong.
