Default -3an fitting on oil feed or -4an

Hey guys, i'm in the process of building my turbo car.

I have a BEGI kit wich is second hand, I think it was previously on an NB but i own a 94 NA

Since I own a 94 NA, my oil feed is different from the previous owner so i wont be using the same setup.

I installed a -3an fitting on the engine block where my stock oil catch is on the 94-95 models. But I just checked the fitting on the turbo itself and it seems to be a -4an.

So here is my question (i'm new to this).

Do i have to change the -4an fitting on the turbo and put a -3an ? I mean, coudlnt i just put a -3an female fitting on a braided hose for the engine block and a -4an female fitting on the turbo and put a line inbetween, the flow would already be small since the entry of the line is a -3 right ?

Or am I all wrong and i need a -3an fitting on the turbo too. Thank you

Depends on which turbo you have and whether or not the unit has a restrictor.

1. Remove -3an fitting from the block.
2. Install -4an fitting in the block.
3. Install -4an line.
4. Profit.

Unless his GT2560R doesn't have a restrictor, in which case that's a recipe for epic fail.

I have zero clue what turbo he is running, but I know no one running -3an lines for oil feeds. I have always seen -4an lines for Garrett turbos and -6an for EFR's.

It just seems way strange to me to go get a fitting to change the turbo feed to -3an instead of just changing the fitting on the block to match what the turbo already has. Running a restrictor to me seems to be independent of the line size, but more based on what turbo you are using.

Well according to this :

Oil Feed and Return - Miata Turbo FAQ

I needed a 3an fitting.

But anyway, just because sourcing parts was being a hassle (live in québec and not every supplier ship to canada quickly/cheaply) and because i still needed a brand new line, I decided to order the appropiate kit from BEGI, the line and the fittings, so the hassles are over.

Do it once, do it right.

So what you are saying is, I should not run -3 for my 2554?

EFRs ship with a -4 inlet fitting, so I suspect most people are doing that. In any case, an unrestricted -4AN feed line to a ball-bearing Garrett turbo is going to cause issues. BTDT.

You are correct about the EFR. I had misread the instruction in the box that mine came in, it is the water lines that are -6an.

I have always just bought the -4AN fitting with the restrictor from ATP for my garretts so that was my bad on that over site.
