Just done a deal with these guys for a new trailer to be delivered in a few weeks. Not sure if you guys have anything like this over there and i thought i would mention it as they are currently doing a USA roadshow tour including one of the NASA meets, something at Watkins Glen etc...

I'm not associated with the company but think it is a pretty cool idea and have ordered a single axle one. Not sure if i can open my doors on it but am hoping so.....General Lee style exit on the trailer at 6 foot 2" and no longer "slim" is getting old

I was expecting a preview of some feature film.

 

Cool design, but damn they are not cheap at all (my 24' enclosed was only $5600 Yankee bucks)

 

Neat concept. I've seen similar kneeling/tilting trailers before that used airbags. Convenience comes with a price, which in this case, really isn't bad considering a Trailex CT-7541 starts at $6,300. Personally, I love these ultra-lightweight trailers. A steel construction 24' enclosed race trailer would almost require me to purchase a 3/4ton diesel truck, which adds to the expense. Sure, I could get away with a 1/2 ton gasser, but I really hate marginal tow rigs.

 

Weight is a key factor in my reasoning. Our house, drive, garage entrance and parking is on a hill and being able to manhandle the trailer around will be a big help.

Was towing in some decent 60+mph gusts yesterday, definitely glad I do have a 3/4ton diesel. Saw a lot of <1/2ton trucks pulling trailers that were getting pretty sideways.

 

Not really. I have a 8x20 eclosed trailer that I tow with either a Chevy 2500HD 6.0 or a F150 Ecoboost and the F150 pulls better than the Chevy. My F150 has a 9700# tow rating and the newer ones are slightly higher. Granted the older 5.4 Ford and 5.3 Chevy's are kinda dogs towing.

 

Please post updates when you take delivery, when you hook it up the first time, when you get back from a race weekend, etc.

How many miles are on the suspension of the 2500HD?

Sadly the queue for manufacture is such that my one is still 8+ weeks away....

 

The 2500HD is a 6.0 gas engine with about 95K. Believe it or not, the Ecoboost will smoke it from a dead stop. The EB pulls better though the first 4 gears because the torque kicks in at about 1800 rpm where the 6.0 needs to get up to about 3000 rpm to get into the torque. Also, the EB has 3.55 gears vs the 373 in the 2500HD. Granted, if you are pulling a fully loaded 24-28ft trailer, a 3/4 ton truck will be more stable but my 8x20 weighs about 6K with the car and stuff so that's well under the range for a 1/2 ton truck.

 

Oh, you have a 2500HD with the wrong motor.

 

Yeah, a diesel would be a whole different animal. My dad just doesn't need that much truck.

 

A friend of mine has a 2500 Suburban with the LS motor in it. He parked it next to my truck once and we opened the hood. Wow the LS motor looks tiny compared to a Duramax.

I find not being able to open the doors of the car while its on the trailer really annoying. that design looks cool however and when it is up it looks line you can open the doors, that would be acceptable I think. I built my own trailer. Its light weight well under 1000 lbs. 13" wheels with a deck height that allows doors to open over the fenders. Dove tail and ramp design allows me to load the car without removing a splitter that sticks a full 6" in front of the front of the bumper. has a wheel rack that will hold nine 275/35/15 tires. I towed it quite a bit with an 95 S10 blazer before getting a hand me down 98 Dodge 3500 with a Cummins. Most all the other open trailers I have been around were much heavier and didn't work as nice.

 

Did you follow plans online to build the trailer? Or made it on your own. I have thought about building my own trailer, because I figure they are not that complicated, but I know nothing about trailers so would rather go based on some plans then trying to wing it.

I am curious as to how they actuate the mechanism. If you wouldn't mind taking some video once you get the trailer, that would be great. It appears they're using cables, but hard to tell.
