Default 3 Inch Straight Pipe on turbo miata?

Soooo I've been searching the glorious website of youtube for videos of the sound of a 3 inch straight piped turbo miata, but it seems not many people do that. Anyone here have that done and have anything to say about it? How loud is it and do you like it? Whats the tone like?

Only sounds good if you run a 90 off the turbo and go out the hood.

I have exactly that setup you speak of.
I like it in the mornings only, after a long day of work I absolutely hate it.

I have it in my race car. 3" stainless pipe from the back of the turbo to the rear bumper with no resonators, mufflers, cats, etc. You would be wise to avoid such an exhaust in a street car unless you like migraine headaches, law enforcement encounters, and the general disdain of everyone within a 100ft radius of you at all times.

I have 2.5" open exhaust. It's fine inside with a helmet/etc., horrible from outside though. 57:14 if you want to hear the nasty buzz.

Thanks guys! Maybe I'll pass on that straight pipe idea then. What about something like a bullet muffler? I've been thinking maybe the Magnaflow #12619 would be a good choice.

My friend's car has a 2.5" split downpipe (for about 18") that combines into 3" from there back with a big magnaflow resonator. It is loud but tolerable abd sounds good.

Second car in this video.

We were not blessed with beautiful sounding engines. If you've ever heard spec Miatas you understand. The turbo helps but not nearly enough. I'm not sure why some engines sound so much better than others. The spec 944 cars also sound like hell.

I've run a resonator after the downpipe with a turndown before the rear axles on a street car. It's loud (like difficult to place a drive-through order with the car on even at idle) but for the most part bearable, especially if you're super poor/cheap. That seems like a bare minimum to me as far as exhaust goes.

I personally I wouldn't want to even consider running straight piped. Like other's said, Miatas do not sound good so less volume is generally a good idea.

There are threads on here that speak of a 3" magnaflow muffler for the miat. Super quiet etc, low rumbles. Some even use a resonator in the straight which helps. Check out EO2K's exhaust setup in his build thread.

Here is Miataman04 driving my miata before we departed MATG. I never heard my car from the outside until then. This is a MagnaFlow #12589 Muffler, full 3 inch turbo back, with a 3-inch MagnaFlow resonator in place of the cat.

Miatas sound terrible. I'd suggest doing whatever you can to make it as silent as possible.

My car has a Magnaflow 14419 after the downpipe and MKTurbo exhaust, with big Magnaflow, behind that. It made my day when I gave a friend a ride and he asked if I still had the stock exhaust.

I... don't think mine sounds terrible at all. The next clear day we have I'll see if I can go take a video. But I have a full 3" exhaust with no cats, no resonator and the standard Magnaflow 5x8x18 muffler. Not raspy at all, and while it's loud, it's not unbearable or annoying.

Quieter the better. My car currently has an FM 2.5" turbo exhaust and it's NA. The only enjoyment I get from it is drive by beehive-ing restaurants and neighbors I don't like.

I always got compliments on mine, with 2 bullet mufflers and a standard borla. I think I have all the bits kicking around, I'd recommend adding an extra exhaust hanger to it and you'd need a custom downpipe to run it.
