Hey everyone, my name is Becker. I am a nineteen year old college student from Indiana in pursuit of a mechanical engineering degree.

I had made a noob post about two years ago when I had my first bought my first Miata, a bone stock 1993 le. I drove the crap out of it for nearly a year before I sold it to buy a NB1, and then later my current car. A 93 Miata with some basic modifications, wheels, coil overs, roll bar, and some other small stuff. I have a fair amount of experience wrenching and understanding of mechanics in result of growing up around Motorsports.

I have spent a good chunk of time (8 months) researching and getting myself familiar with what it takes to do a reliable DIY setup for a reasonable price. Most of it being reading in this forum along with Croky Bell's book "Maximum Boost". My car has 130k on the clock and I have maintained it fairly well, but being on a budget most of my maintenance has been a when it breaks type of thing. The car runs strong, I have just done a tb/wp job two weeks ago along with a new radiator. I am currently in the middle of building my DIY ms3x, trubokitty is awesome!! The plan is to get the car running good on MS while its still NA and get a better understating of tuning. One of my concerns is the vLSD that is in the car right now. From my understanding there is no real way to know when it'll break so I guess I'll just pony up when that day comes. The car also has a cheap 2.5" catback exhaust, what kind of limitations will this bring down the road? I bought this car with a slipping clutch, it came with a exedy stage 1 replacement that now has 7000ish miles on it and has seen a lot of dumps and clutch kicks . With these limitations I plan on a low boost application for now. But I would like to piece my kit together so that when I eventually upgrade the diff/clutch/exhaust that I will be able to make over 200whp.

I have a huge amount of respect for the knowledge that is shared in this forum. I would appreciate any guidance or suggestions with this build.

You've got a decent plan! Will the Kraken kit mate up to the exhaust you have, are you going to do some DIY exhaust work to mate them up?
Also, I'm pretty sure I got my boost gauge for $10 used here on the forum and it hasn't let me down. I bet you could get away without spending $100 on that.

Skip the blow off valve and the boost gauge IMO. I'd also go iridium NGKs. BKR7EIX.

It's refreshing to see someone who did some research.

Thanks for the heads up. Actually decided I am gonna go with a full MK kit. Really not saving a whole lot piecing it together myself. I figure its worth something to support someone here on the forum and have someone to call.

Out of curiosity, what kind of boost levels would you deem a blow off valve necessary?

If you aren't blowing couplers then you haven't hit the point of needing it IMO. There are plenty that will argue but I did a bunch of reading and made an informed decision not to run one. You're someone who knows how to read/research. It's probably best you look in to it yourself and make your own decision.

I'm at 17psi.

Originally planned to mate the kraken DP to my exhaust. I have now opted to go for a MK Kit. I see that you've had experience with the MK stuff, what kind of hp numbers were you seeing at 16psi? I still have the 1.6 in my car, one day I'll be a big baller and drop a VVT in.

I never dynoed it, but it's a great kit. It felt fast and held up to about 10k miles of street driving and a handful of track days before I sold it. The fitment is really good, and for not much money you get a full 3-inch exhaust. It's an exceptionally good value.

Nice choice of the MK Turbo kit.

BOV isn't needed until 12+ psi in my opinion. That's where the pressure differential becomes enough to be worth it. By 15psi for sure on the journal turbo. You will easily hit 200whp without needing one using MK Turbo kit. Should hit that at about 10-12psi or so.
