Time to upgrade my fuel jug for the Miata for track days since my old one cracked. I was checking out going with one of the ripper nozzle units vs the normal VP racing hose style outlets. Wanted to see if anyone had any positive experiences with them. I am assuming they go down far enough to push the flapper out of the way in the stock fuel tank but I wanted to confirm if anyone else has had good experiences with them. If not, I will be the guinea pig :-D
I figured best to ask since I know these fuel jugs sometimes don't work with certain cars (namely Porsches are what I'm thinking of). Apparently on the older air cooled ones, these don't go down far or something. Not entirely sure.
I do not recall either my NA or NB having flappers. Either way, this fuel jug would work perfectly fine even if it did, the PVC pipe is long enough to push any flapper out of the way. It's not "hose" style and has a solid sch80 PVC pipe at the end with a cap you take off.
That's neat. I've not seen something like this before. I'll have to dig into it to see how quick they are. lol, not a race for me to fill up since I usually end up doing it about mid-day thru the HPDE to get it back up to a full tank but it would be nice to fill it quickly.

A guy at the last event had these to fill his Panoz. lol, he had 10 of them since he had to run it on race fuel and those cars aren't known to be very economical gas wise but they did seem to work well. I saw that. I misunderstood that it didn't require an external pump to get to that. The wording is weird on the site, "dispenses at 2 gallons per minute with a siphon pump" so I was assuming there was a +12v pump that you needed to get to that range or something. Seems that with other models like this, that just means gravity fed siphon... not an external pump. That's pretty quick. lol, I'll look like I know what the heck I'm doing out there with a rig like that.
It works very well, fill time is quicker I find than just using a regular hose and unless you manually open it you can't spill anything. Plus it's a lot easier physically since you don't have to be lifting it up the entire time.
You will a KTM adapter though, I just tested it without and it doesn't work.
They can be a little messy if you're not careful when pulling out of if you've filled the car all the way up. I've only used them on a enduro Miata which had a punched out fuel filler, so I can't attest to the depth required.

That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much. I think this will work great. I'll just snag one of the drystop jugs from speedway and one of these adapters to slap on it and call it a day.

So far it's been working out well since I start the car with a full tank in the AM and by mid-day I add in the full 5 gallon jug and it's gotten it near full but not over filled so I've been lucky in that regard. That's good to know though that they can be messy if you go to the hilt w/ filling it up though. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Timely post. We are just punching out our filler neck to use the spring close jug in the OP's first post.
It will do 2nd duty for my MX racing.
I figure we pretty much know how much fuel we are going to be adding so should never or rarely get to the point where it will overflow out the toop of the tank.
My only concern is that the fuel filler flap is part of the OEM roll over fuel spill safety but cant see that it is....anyone care to elaborate on that?

Not sure. I did do some testing since I posted and those fuel jugs with the tube as shown from @StableEnergies do work as long as you press them past the flap. A friend of mine had one for his ATV so we tried it on the Miata and it worked. I like the idea of the ripper jug more so I placed an order w/ Speedway for one of those and also one of those KTM adapters too so I am going to go that path for now.
Same. Hunsaker ftw. The plumbing that comes with it isn’t ideal, but works fine for a Miata. If you look at the diameter of the vent vs the diameter of the fill, you’ll see what I mean. Fill could be made out of thinner metal vs the thick plastic it comes with. We’ve figured we could get our 15 gallons poured in in ~90 seconds with a few mods.
