Aka- how do I know if my head has been shaved? And try as I might, I cannot remember the technical term for that measurement. I don’t have a FSM, so I can’t look it up, and I can’t google it if I don’t remember the terminology.

My google results were mostly about about how much material can be taken from the head. I need to know the spot to use my calipers to measure the head height, and the stock height measurement. Thanks.

could you be any more dense? Did you even read what I typed? I have googled. I have searched. I spent thirty minutes trying to find the terminology alone. Wanna know a secret about search results? You cant find them when they are buried under two decades of BS. And, to prove I’m correct, I dare you to find the answer I’m looking for by using any combination of the search term words “Miata head shave deck height tolerance allowance”. I can’t wait to see someone post a link, with the answer, using those search terms.

 

ill give this a try again. Last time I did this I could only find tbhe Mellon’s website version which didn’t have that exact info in it. My car came with a Haynes manual. Anyone know how trustworthy that one is?

Several times... it sometimes takes me a while. Being dense and all.

In case you haven't gotten it yet, we aren't here to hand you the information. If you'd clicked on the 1st link that popped up, picked the service manual for the year of your car and took the time to go through the engine section it'd be there... in plain sight.

 

I’m not here to be spoon fed. I needed a word, a terminology, a phrase. Something to get me to the point where I can keep searching. Ya failed. The fact remains- search all you want, you won’t find it if you don’t need know the word to use.

I did not; knew the thread was there. It is actually sticky'd on these forums, and my standard process on any forum is to read all sticky threads first :P

And Bahurd is basically right. You are asking for an OEM spec on an OEM engine. Only natural place to look for it is on the FSM (as with any OEM spec)
