Note: this thread is migrated from data I've had in spreadsheets for several years.
I will scan for typos while expanding this. I will remove this notice when I've adequately re-re-re-proofread this.
This thread is meant to make it easy to source parts for working with connectors that frequently appear in stock and modified Miatas. There is some of this data scattered around here and there, but this is intended to be a comprehensive guide based off manufacturer catalogs. This thread is just for part number data.
Search part numbers in Octopart before you buy. You'd be amazed how cheap some of this stuff is.
The connectors are alphabetized by function.
Device connections are labeled as "harness side" and "device side" by default.
The terminal you use will be a function of your wire gauge.
The seal you use will be a function of your wire's insulation OD. This is a function of both gauge and type.
Recommended terminal/seal combinations are listed for popular sizes of TXL wire.
The terminal recommendations will work for any wire of the same gauge.
Users of non-TXL wire will have to figure out the insulation OD of their preferred wire.
Data is sourced from the following references (hotlinks may die):
Device side: no true OEM mate. An aftermarket mate is sold by Ballenger Motorsports as P/N CONN-100937, using TS-series male terminals. For this aftermarket mate:
20awg TXL: 8100-0457 male terminal (22-20awg) + 7165-0118 seal (1.7-2.4mm, blue)
18awg TXL: 8100-0458 male terminal (20-16awg) + 7165-0118 seal (1.7-2.4mm, blue)
16awg TXL: 8100-0458 male terminal (20-16awg) + 7165-0118 seal (1.7-2.4mm, blue)
Note: these coils were originally intended to mate with a 4-position Metri-Pack 150 pull-to-seat (P2S) connector. The GT 150 3.5CL variant is cheaper, easier to use, and streamlines crimp supplies and practices. By substituting GT 150 3.5CL for all Metri-Pack 150 P2S applications in a DIY project, one crimp tool that supports GT 150 terminals can be used for the majority of common aftermarket EFI parts.
Coil Packs (90-93 coils) Harness side: Sumitomo 6195-0012, DL series 3-position male
20awg TXL: 8230-4472 male terminal (22-20awg) + 7165-0118 seal (1.7-2.4mm, blue)
18awg TXL: 8230-4562 male terminal (18awg) + 7165-0118 seal (1.7-2.4mm, blue)
16awg TXL: 8230-4552 male terminal (16-14awg) + 7165-0118 seal (1.7-2.4mm, blue)

16awg TXL: 8100-0458 male terminal (20-16awg) + 7165-0118 seal (1.7-2.4mm, blue)
Note: unshrouded is, IMHO, often easier to disconnect. Like many other connectors in this list, this GT 150 variant is the preferred alternative to an older Metri-Pack 150 Pull-to-Seat variant, allowing streamlined terminal inventory and assembly at reduced cost.
Crank Position Sensor (NB CKP, 1999-2005) Harness side: Sumitomo 6195-0012, DL series 3-position male
20awg TXL: 8230-4472 male terminal (22-20awg) + 7165-0118 seal (1.7-2.4mm, blue)
18awg TXL: 8230-4562 male terminal (18awg) + 7165-0118 seal (1.7-2.4mm, blue)
16awg TXL: 8230-4552 male terminal (16-14awg) + 7165-0118 seal (1.7-2.4mm, blue)
ECU (Microsquirt) Black connector, harness side: TE AMPSEAL 776164-1, 35-position female, black color
20-16awg wire: 770854-1 female terminal (tin) or 770854-3 female terminal (gold)
Note: seal is integral to connector.
ECU (MS3 Pro / Ultimate / Evo) White connector, harness side: TE AMPSEAL 776164-2, 35-position female, natural color
Gray connector, harness side: TE AMPSEAL 776164-4, 35-position female, gray color
Black connector, harness side: TE AMPSEAL 770680-1, 23-position female, black color
20-16awg wire: 770854-1 female terminal (tin) or 770854-3 female terminal (gold)
Note: seal is integral to connector.
Note: there are multiple variants of USCAR injector connectors from different manufacturers. The GT 150 variant streamlines crimp supplies and practices by consolidating around the GT-150 connector family.
Injectors (OEM, 1990-2005) Harness side: Sumitomo 6189-0039, MT series 2-position female, high keyway, 5mm pitch
18awg TXL: 1500-0110 female terminal (20-16awg) + 7161-9785 seal (2.0-2.7mm, black)
16awg TXL: 1500-0110 female terminal (20-16awg) + 7161-9785 seal (2.0-2.7mm, black)
Device side: no true OEM mate, aftermarket mates sold through many channels.
Knock Sensor (NB, 1999-2005) Harness side: Sumitomo 6195-0006, DL series 2-position male
20awg TXL: 8230-4472 male terminal (22-20awg) + 7165-0118 seal (1.7-2.4mm, blue)
18awg TXL: 8230-4562 male terminal (18awg) + 7165-0118 seal (1.7-2.4mm, blue)
16awg TXL: 8230-4552 male terminal (16-14awg) + 7165-0118 seal (1.7-2.4mm, blue)
Note: these pressure sensors were originally intended to mate with a round, 3-position Metri-Pack 150 pull-to-seat (P2S) connector.
Throttle Position Sensor (NB TPS, 1999-2005) Harness side: Yazaki 7283-1133-10, 090 II series 3-position female with dual keys
20awg TXL: 7116-4025 female terminal (22-20awg) + 7157-3821 seal (1.4-2.1mm, dark green)
18awg TXL: 7116-4026 female terminal (18-16awg) + 7157-3646 seal (1.9-2.9mm, brown)
16awg TXL: 7116-4026 female terminal (18-16awg) + 7157-3646 seal (1.9-2.9mm, brown)
Device side: not available
Note: None of these seals are widely available in the USA. A common, dimensionally-identical seal is Sumitomo 7160-8234 (MT series 6mm pitch, 1.7-2.7mm, black, 5.7mm lip / 5.8mm length).
Although some plugs are not available from the original manufacturers, the aftermarket sometimes has solutions.
Recently I was searching for the device side of '99-'00 coils and I found Ballenger motorsport sells these connectors: https://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/static.php/post/miata
In my opinion "device side not available" is not entirely true, however I can understand you would not like to link to 3rd party / aftermarket manufacturers for these connectors.
I added a note about the aftermarket mating housing for the DL 4-position plugs. Thanks!
I was trying to avoid promoting specific 3rd-party molded housings that I've never personally installed (like the many forms of keyway-free mating housings for Denso injectors), but it sounds like you two both had a good experience with that housing.
how about pins for some of these general harness connectors.they look sort of like Yazaki or Sumitomo .250" but the retention system looks different on the male pin from the images I see online. these are all over the car in different places with different pin counts.
These connector housings and crimp connectors are the correct size and also fit. Retention mechanism looks different but I've replaced / repaired stuff like the AC compressor 1pin connectors with these.
