300+ whp NC, how to do it~~
hello everyone. i've owned and daily driven my NC for couple of years, and love the handling. however the power is somewhat lacking so finally decided to go FI.
a local store will help with the building, however they are not fimiliar with miata. so any information regarding how to achieve the HP goal are much needed.
My car:
stock 2009 NC hardtop with automatic transmission
Goal:
300+whp, will be daily driven with occasional track activities.
Current plan and questions:
1. after reading through turbo and SC builds, i kinda prefer rotrex for its linear compression rate
2. heard that in order to bring out more boost early, I could use a bigger rotrex (c38 comes in mind) and bleeds out excessive pressure after certain rpm by using a wastegate. question is, will the wastegate promote other problems, such as making huge noise once it start working at the peak boost?
3. for the power goal, what needs to be done to my stock NC engine to survive some track abuse?
4. what available tranny will survive that kind of power? a stock 6mt?
5. any other components in the powertrain need to be upgraded?
6. what engine management is optimal? any standalone ecu working particularly good with miata?
7. with a c38, what kind of psi will make 300+ whp?

Buy a manual. Racing a torque-converter auto is dumb.
Goal:

5. any other components in the powertrain need to be upgraded? You obviously need a clutch if you put in a manual. Put in an LSD, too, since the autos never came with one

Call Flyin Miata. They are evaluating a system from a UK company called Corten-Miller to see if they want to sell it in the US. They and Joe from Dynotronics are the only ones in the US with direct personal experience with their Rotrex kit. I have driven Joe's and it is very fun. Don't do a Kraftwerks kit.

that leaves me only to worry about the mounting, piping and installation. so which kit has the best hardware quality do you think? given my car is NC and plans on using a C38 rotrex.

but even if they wont hold in stock form, I just need to find out whatever mods are needed to get them there. i don't intend to run over 300 with stock motor and auto tranny

because NC hasn't exactly been popular around here and really nobody are experienced with them
plus they are quite good with modifying cars they run a few civics and fits with K20 transplanted on track and all are running stably.
that sad, some1 else actually knows miata but he is like 200km away and I dont want to drive over there every now and then for tuning :(

If other options are out of reach, what makes you think you can adapt a rx7 transmission? Your well overr your head.. you want to super mod a car with hp levels that break 6 speeds, and you have an automatic transmission. It isn't a turbo 400. You dont sound like you have the resources. You're in the wrong car, bro.

as for automatic, I'm definitely swapping it out for a manual so question is what manual to put in. stock NC 6speed breaks over 300hp or so I red. is there a mazdaspeed version 6spd that is stronger than stock NC's?

1. sell or trade car. you will be doing so much work to a car when it is easier and cheaper to just buy the car you need/want straight away.

The way I see it, you have 3 options.
1. Take a couple months of reading and researching so you actually learn about the platform you plan to modify. You'll then be equipped to succeed. You currently do not have the knowledge necessary to succeed, nor even the knowledge necessary to ask the right questions for progress.
2. Give up on 1 and find a shop who will take your car and build it for you comprehensively. This sounds easy, but finding such a shop will take a lot of research, and opens up the possibility of a LOT of wasted time and money if they turn out to suck.
3. Sell the Miata and buy something that already has the performance you seek. Corvette, 911, M3, etc.
At this point you are asking a lot of misguided questions. You're not ready to present a build plan for critique and suggestions, and your problems aren't focused enough for us to help you. Unlike with the NA/NB platforms, there's not a clear tested consumer recipe for big power (350+ whp) success in the NC yet.

1. miata really is what I want, except for the slightly lack in power. similar cars are either too expensive or not suitable for DD.
2. the 6speed model is not for sale in China thus a swap is needed, or I could stick with the AT which seems quick and responsive enough in manual mode.
3. good to know that c30-94 would support close to 300whp. though I wonder if there are any downsides for the bigger C38 series?
