Here's the contents of the cans. 800 weekender road miles (no race or autocross) since install. Left one is the PCV valve side and right one is the vent (drivers) side can.

PCV side can has a few sixteenths inch of oil in it, and it stinks a lot more than what is on the dipstick

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1378252198

Poured it out in a glass bowl to take a closer look. It doesn't seem like there is much water or anything else in it, its mostly oil

Right now, this says catch can on the PCV valve side is useful, the other one is bone dry. Since this motor spends most of its time at part throttle on the street that seems to indicate the oil in the catch can has to be mostly fume drawn out of the crankcase under manifold vacuum. Blow by would show up in the other can from boost.

Your results may vary.

Questions:

1. Is there some type of internal baffle on the caps to catch the oil rather than it just travel in and out of the taps? I looked on the link, but didn't see any info there. I'm wondering if there's even more oil getting through than just what's caught.

2. I'm interested to see if you're catching the same amount of oil now with the hardlines that have a much more complex travel path, than the straight shot you basically had from the PVC to the catch can. Do you think the hard pipe angles will contribute to less oil collection - at least in the can? For example the bend on the top right for the driver's side, seems like oil would collect there and roll back towards the valve cover. I guess it'd generally serve the same purpose.

3. This is MT.net Next time you make hardline, it needs to be mandrel bent with mini-v-bands!

The catch cans have some sort of metallic baffle and a wire gauze in the top section and it looks like all the flow is forced down into the bowl. With vapor still flowing through im sure there is still some fraction of oil going through, but to what degree or efficiency at oil removal these run at I have no idea. Would be a question for moroso

I didn't run it hardly at all with the rubber hoses. I don't think a low spot in the tube matters because even if oil collects the engine will produce more than enough vacuum to clear it out. Manifold vacuum on my car is 20 to 23 inHg so it will certainly pull oil over an elevation of just a few inches.

I'm not sure if with a stock PVC system like mine if its relevant to consider the restriction of the tubing vs hose when the PCV valve is the flow restriction all by itself on the one side. On the other side the rubber elbow going out of the valve cover has the stock orfice pill inserted into the line, so that's clearly foing to be the restriction there.

I liked your set up so much I copied it.
I had been searching for oil catch can threads and found all sorts of shit that helped me on my way but then I stumbled upon this and knew what I had to do. Thanks for posting.
I still need to make a few changes but they're on for now. I really like your hard lines... maybe one day.

Thanks. Now that Ive contributed something I deserve a special "man of the week" avatar. My setups been running fine since install with no issues other than replaced some silicone hose with rubber.
