Going supercharged, help me not make any mistakes!
Hey guys. Since I impulse bought a BRP MP62 S1 kit from a fellow forum member (NO REGRETS). It's time I make a post for general questions, instead of making 10 different threads.
Anyway, I supercharged my Mustang a number of years ago, but honestly I had a lot of help from friends/family and this time I want to be hands on myself 100% this time. I'm looking to have this done by the end of next month (hahaha.......... Cri). So here is what I have now. My car is mechanically a absolutely bone stock 1995 Miata. The powerhouse: BRP MP62 S1 kit for a 99-01 Miata. I will have to modify some things, like remote mounting my IAC, because mine isn't compatible with the kits DTB, as well as the tensioner bracket because I don't have PS, and this kit was designed for a car with PS. The ECU: An archaic LINK ECU. it came with knock sensor, keypad, 2 MAP sensors, ECU, serial link and an extra serial cable. Fueling: Flow Force injectors (haven't decided on a size yet). Monitoring: I will be hooking up a AEM Wideband O2 sensor (4110) to my LINK. I also have the gauge. Due to me having serial link, I'll be able to use my laptop to watch for knock and data log with RTLINK and DLL. (I need to find links for these...). Question section. ANSWERED: My overall power goal is 200whp. Do I need to upgrade my fuel pump, or is the stock one capable of supplying fuel for 200? ANSWERED: My clutch of choice is going to be a Flyin Miata stage 1. Any criticism on this? ANSWERED: Why did my LINK come with 2 map sensors? Do I need the second one? ANSWERED: The stock internals can handle (from my research) 230. Is the 230 wtq or WHP? I'm assuming it's torque, but I want to know 100%. ANSWERED: Would a exhaust blanket be a good idea to keep the exhaust heat away from the supercharger? I can't imagine the charger stays cool on long trips, and where I live the outside temperature gets to 115+. Any help whatsoever will be appreciated. I tend to take advice when it's given. |
So your buying a turbo yeah?

RC injectors. Link ECU. Supercharger.
|
Going with that setup was already a huge mistake.
Your other huge mistakes are the terrible management and fueling, to name a few. |
Ditch the ECU and injectors. Acquire MS3 and EV14s of your choice. Flow Force are cheap.
|
You're gonna want meth injection or e85 (or both) if you want those temps to be acceptable, cause it's gonna heat soak like crazy. And shield/shroud as much stuff as possible. So yes a header blanket is not a terrible idea. I liked the one from tdr

Has anyone said "too late" yet?
|
Download and read the manual for the link. It is on FMs website. These guys will give you shit for it, but it will work. Is it as good as an MS? No. But having worked with both, the link isn't too bad. Assuming you got the correct one for your year of car?
The MP62 is at least the right supercharger if you are going to go that way. My M45 is def too small. Listen to these guys about the injectors though. For the bracket, you will need a dummy pulley. I beilve TDR will have a kit? |

Its a kit for a 00-01, soooooo, arent you going to have problems getting that to fit your 95 head?
|
Thanks for all the... Advice guys. Well, I already bought the injectors, so that's what I'm using for now.
The link is a FM 94/95 Link so yes its for my year. The kit is a hotside kit, so no I won't have any issues mating it to a 95. I don't regret any of my choices on stuff right now. I understand this is a 'turbo' Miata forum, but all these comments about 'too late' and shit really isn't any help. Keep em to yourself. |
You asked to be spoon fed, we told.
Research is your friend to equip you with knowledge to accomplish your goals. It also prevents, "Well I already bought...," moments. Some things like the injectors have come a long way since wherever you sourced your parts list, so it resolves some of the uphill battle you'll be facing. Do you have a build thread? Any pictures? Cats? |

I am a 100% noob to supercharging. I do know though, that most seem to have idle issues. This will most likely be compounded with RC550's. Do yourself a favor and at least get rid of those. they are early 90's technology. I think the Flow Force kits are like 300 bucks, a nominal cost in the grand scheme of things.

Cats? I did research the RC injectors, in all the threads I read, I never saw any complaints about them other than sealing issues, which I found a thread with proper sized o-rings (along with part numbers) to fix the issue. As for the concerns regarding supercharger fitment. I have found a few threads of 99-01 guys mounting 94-97 mp62 kits on their cars without an issue (other than them needing a new dummy TB). I did about 10 hours of research before pulling the trigger on the kit I bought. I know it doesn't seem like a lot but... Eh. I will start a build thread for sure. Pictures, no. Will take some as soon as I pick up the SC kit this weekend and wash my car. Cats? Yes. When he is around. |
Dude, I don't know which century you did your research in, but rc's are literally bottom of the barrel junk

Superchargers are great if they meet your requirements.
seriously though, injectors |
I sold you those injectors. I mean, they worked fine for me for years but yes I now have FF injectors and they are way smoother and I feel better knowing that they are so well balanced. I haven't shipped em yet, if you want I can refund you and I'll just flip them on ebay. Otherwise I'll ship and you can keep some cash in your pocket.
