Nope, just the truth. Seems i'm the only person a round that can get power out of a charger.

viperormiata 08-15-2011 01:58 AM

I think you're the only person who realized that a supercharger (like a turbo) is best ran with out pow-pow-POWERCARDZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Way back when, I ran my M45 hard and squeezed 168whp out of it. No easy feat 7 years ago. I was so proud.

Now that you're on par with average turbo setups :giggle: you need to step it up and really spin that blower. Stock engines are for turds. I remember reading that TDR had a MP62 over 280whp, don't remember the engine management though. I'm sure with a built short block you could squeeze all the power you'll ever need out of the blower.

I thought I read somewhere that you un-throttled your MP62, or am I just making shit up?

jeff_man 08-15-2011 12:37 PM

The tdr nb is 280hp with a built motor, a greedy piggy back, ported intake and ported blower. The owner thinks there is no way my car is putting down 250 even with a dyno sheet. I could make well over 300 with his motor/blower/intake.

Car is down tuned 10 to 15hp to make it 91oc safe and is getting a 3 psi cut to keep from braking a rob.

mgeoffriau 08-15-2011 12:43 PM

What are you making? The MOAB I just bought was dyno'd at 248 whp if I remember correctly. Not planning on leaving it at 19 psi, however.

And my numbers are still better.

Pics or not, it still didn't happen. 200HP from an M45 on a PC-Pro and otherwise stock motor and pullies?

i could do sexy thing with your car.

but again no one has yet to show me a set up that does not include modding anything past the fmic out tube that makes both good low end go go gadget torque and good hp.

91 Oct. 14.5PSI peak, lifted early.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1313608780

Joe Perez 08-17-2011 04:26 PM

Yeah, but those are Canadian ft/lbs. You have to multiply by 0.82 to get SAE.

(ducks)

That's actually some pretty impressive work for a Rotrex. Torque ramp is sadly characteristic of most centrifugal blower setups, but a very impressive top end.

falcon 08-17-2011 04:28 PM

Yeah torque sucks and I fully agree. I am considering dropping the RPM limit more to spin the blower faster, earlier. If I drop to 7200RPM I should be in the 210-220ft/lbs area and likely break the 300whp mark.

Joe Perez 08-17-2011 06:13 PM

Have you ever considered using a form of active boost control, such as a servo-controlled bypass or variable inlet restrictor? It seems that, within the RPM and compressor efficiency limits of the supercharger, this would give a more favorable torque curve as compared to a static inlet restriction.

y u so dumb and where is the torque?? Your missing the point with your built motor and custom intake manifold. You can keep the ~290 hp at 8k and i'll keep my 220ftlb at 3.5k

hustler 08-18-2011 12:38 AM

falcon 08-18-2011 07:00 PM

I've thought about it. Perhaps in a year when the TVS chargers are more used. Or a MP62 hotside w/ my Rotrex feeding it. The choices are endless, but after a 8 month long build I want to just enjoy driving for a bit.

18psi 08-18-2011 07:04 PM

what you dont want to be like jtothehow and fairyflower?

falcon 08-18-2011 07:06 PM

How so? Doing things before anyone else has and being the guinea pig? Kind of like what I did with the Rotrex on a 1.6L? Yeah, I'm done with being the guinea pig for now.

Or the fact that they never leave their cars alone and don't actually drive them?

i just guinea pigged my car, what i have done has been done by a very small group of people and there was no info out there on it to just read then do it.

very happy with my guinea pigging. :giggle:

falcon 08-18-2011 07:22 PM

Me too. First 1.6L Rotrex and for the most part the most HP out of a 1.6L supercharged car (and a lot of turbo cars too).

So the baby blue line, the one with the low, sloped torque curve, that's the turbo car, right?

falcon 08-19-2011 10:19 AM

What is that? Scaling seems off

Braineack 08-19-2011 10:49 AM

how so? at 7K you're at ~190tq. Plus your's wasn't on a heartbreaker...

18psi 08-19-2011 11:05 AM

Minor off topic q I've been meaning to ask a bunch of times already:
What program or spreadsheet do you guys use to put that little comparo together?
I notice sav, brainy, and a few others constantly using it to compare different dyno plots and wanted to get in on the action.

Braineack 08-19-2011 11:06 AM

Office Excel or OpenOffice Calculator.

18psi 08-19-2011 12:14 PM

Unless either of you have broken the 300whp mark, I think neither of you are. Sure my torque sucks, but I'll bet dollars to donuts the car is faster around a track. And that's really all that matters.

:drama:

Not really. I knew what I was getting into when I decided to go Rotrex. I've built a few turbo motors in various cars and wanted to do something different. It will never have as much torque as a turbo car, but it's fast, easy to work on and I don't have to worry about much going wrong other than pitching it into a wall.

:drama:

Still waiting on my crown. I was making SIGNIFICANTLY more torque than your peak# by 2000 rpm. At 6000 RPM it looks like I'm making close to 75 ft/lbs than you. And those numbers are on a dyno that has a reputation for being a MAJOR heart breaker. Consistantly proven to read 14-16% lower than a dyno jet.

Just so you guys know I wear a 7 7/8ths hat.

:-)

falcon 02-29-2012 12:02 PM

:P... I think it's pretty easy to make more torque than me. How did the tuning session go, have you rung it out yet? For some reason I can't seem to find your thread....

jeff_man 02-29-2012 02:46 PM

I'm only running 8 psi. until i build a motor i'm staying there but could drop a about a 280hp/250ft if I didn't care about the chance of ripping rods in half. With a motor i could could make some real crazy numbers.

Trying to get the car in TTB so might have some down tuning to do even at 220/200.
