Must have gauges for a supercharged miata???
So I just got my Innovate wideband O2 and just realized that I have a choice of either ordering a 2 or 3 hole gauge panel (decided on DDM works). Other than a boost/vacuum gauge (ordered one today) what is another MUST have gauge should I get? If I'm set with these two then I will just get the 2 hole panel.
Thanks for any input guys. FYI: I have a 1994 so I should be all set with the oil gauge? Or am I not? |
Get the "lack of turbo" gauge. It will always be pegged at 100% :party:
No but really those 2 should be fine. You might want a real water temp gauge, but only if you want one. |
I'd recommend a 12 gauge.

My three layered radiator seems to do the job fine. So basically these two would be okay cool. Thank you sir. I will order the 2 hole panel then. Oh if I would go turbo down the road would I need the water gauge? |

I got a combo Vacuum/Boost and AFR gauge from VEI. Both main functions in one gauge. Slick. |

It all matters what you plan on doing with the car. You may even need more gauges as said above depending on the use. Oil temp gauge is also nice to have.

2 functions in 1? Most gauges are boost/vacuum. No racing just spirited driving. My goal is just to get her efficient and well equipped enough to hang in bench racing lol. She may get a turbocharged engine down the road when the 2 kids are done college. I have another 1994 that I'm building the engine for boost. It still has ways to go. For now I think these three will be more than enough. |
Well turbo or SC. the gauges stay pretty much the same other than the "lack of turbo" gauge already mentioned.

On your car there's a 140 degree range where you think your radiator is doing the job fine. My water gauge tells me what the actual temperature is, so there's a 20 degree range where I know my radiator is doing the job fine. |

I really dig my VEI gauges. You can call/email the guys at VEI and they can build you dual function gauges in any combination you want. I have Boost/AFR, Oil Press/Oil Temp, Coolant Temp/IAT :party:
Now I just need to figure out how/where to mount them. |

I'm just going to run Shadow Dash in both cars instead of gauges now. Two or three big ass gauges on a custom screen for the track car should work.

You boys are awesomely hilarious. This is now more like a "WANNA have gauges for a supercharged miata". The question that begs to be quantified is where is the bottom line of gauges? I know it depends on what u what to use it for, what ur willing to pay and/or how it looks to u. Then there is that...is it of good quality? And some other seemingly pertinent insights.
Anyways thanks for all your wisdom and most of all experience. Oh I settled for the wideband, boost and water gauges. I will post pics when they are installed as I think it will look a bit retro and factory at the same time. |

sort of late to the party but I just joined, got myself a supercharger and have a single gauge installed that can handle up to 25 sensors. I currently have Boost/vac and AFR, which are the two things I would have recommended for you. Water temperature is sort of redundant even though your stock gauge isn't accurate as it could be. If it goes up - you pull over and cool it down.
The PLX multi-gauge allows you to daisy chain sensor modules and then scroll through them by touching the screen. There are also different views for each sensor - big digital number, a scrolling graph with a two minute window and peak values. I had the PLX gauges in an S2000 and had I hard time reading them in a lot of light conditions. Now have a SC NB. For gauges - Boost, AFR, and a dual Water/Oil Temp. The dual gauges are a little hard to read at speed.
