Must have gauges for a supercharged miata???
 

So I just got my Innovate wideband O2 and just realized that I have a choice of either ordering a 2 or 3 hole gauge panel (decided on DDM works). Other than a boost/vacuum gauge (ordered one today) what is another MUST have gauge should I get? If I'm set with these two then I will just get the 2 hole panel.

No but really those 2 should be fine. You might want a real water temp gauge, but only if you want one.

I'd recommend a 12 gauge.

A real coolant temp gauge would be nice.

Be kind to the less fortunate ones. My 5-6 psi is enough to make me smile at the end of the day too. May not be as fast as you can smile but slow enough to enjoy boost so to speak lol.

Water gauge? What benefit would I get in terms of temp? My three layered radiator seems to do the job fine.

I got a combo Vacuum/Boost and AFR gauge from VEI. Both main functions in one gauge. Slick.

Well I have the Innovate MTX-L wideband and just ordered the Innovate MTX-L boost/vacuum (2 functions in one gauge). So I guess I will go for the MTX-L water and voltage kit.

It all matters what you plan on doing with the car. You may even need more gauges as said above depending on the use. Oil temp gauge is also nice to have.

2 functions in 1? Most gauges are boost/vacuum.

boost/vacuum is 1 function (MAP)

I mean the Innovate MTXL boost gauge has also the shift light gauge.

No racing just spirited driving. My goal is just to get her efficient and well equipped enough to hang in bench racing lol. She may get a turbocharged engine down the road when the 2 kids are done college. I have another 1994 that I'm building the engine for boost. It still has ways to go.

For now I think these three will be more than enough.

Well turbo or SC. the gauges stay pretty much the same other than the "lack of turbo" gauge already mentioned.

The stock gauge reads the same temp at anything between 90 and 230 degrees (ok maybe not quite that dramatic, but it's bad).

On your car there's a 140 degree range where you think your radiator is doing the job fine. My water gauge tells me what the actual temperature is, so there's a 20 degree range where I know my radiator is doing the job fine.

Estrogen gauge.

I really dig my VEI gauges. You can call/email the guys at VEI and they can build you dual function gauges in any combination you want. I have Boost/AFR, Oil Press/Oil Temp, Coolant Temp/IAT :party:

Now I just need to figure out how/where to mount them.

Where are the grounds? I have a dual temp and they never, ever read correctly, they're like 50* off the real temp. If my water temp gauge says 127, water temp is 180*f. If the oil temp gauge says 122*, then oil temp is 230*f.

My intent was to be paranoid and ground them directly to the block, but as I've said, I've not had a chance to permanently install them yet. How are you validating your temps?

I'm just going to run Shadow Dash in both cars instead of gauges now. Two or three big ass gauges on a custom screen for the track car should work.

I'm really happy with the MaxiGauges that I got from Hakan. You can pick 10 parameters you want to monitor when they are built, user-settable alarms such as "if RPM > 3000 and Oil Pressure < 30, alarm", all sensors included, $360 shipped. Putting another set in the SAAB.

Or buy Shadow Dash for $10 and the BT antenna for $60 and use it with your phone. The screen will turn red or whatever when the gauge of your choice exceeds whatever.

You boys are awesomely hilarious. This is now more like a "WANNA have gauges for a supercharged miata". The question that begs to be quantified is where is the bottom line of gauges? I know it depends on what u what to use it for, what ur willing to pay and/or how it looks to u. Then there is that...is it of good quality? And some other seemingly pertinent insights.

Oh I settled for the wideband, boost and water gauges. I will post pics when they are installed as I think it will look a bit retro and factory at the same time.

sort of late to the party but I just joined, got myself a supercharger and have a single gauge installed that can handle up to 25 sensors. I currently have Boost/vac and AFR, which are the two things I would have recommended for you. Water temperature is sort of redundant even though your stock gauge isn't accurate as it could be. If it goes up - you pull over and cool it down.

The PLX multi-gauge allows you to daisy chain sensor modules and then scroll through them by touching the screen. There are also different views for each sensor - big digital number, a scrolling graph with a two minute window and peak values.

Toss an rpm sensor or some shit on the super charger.

Analog RPM indicator would be a good belt slip indicator if you know your ratio. Would also double as a bitch indicator if you're not pegging the limiter on shifts.

I had the PLX gauges in an S2000 and had I hard time reading them in a lot of light conditions. Now have a SC NB. For gauges - Boost, AFR, and a dual Water/Oil Temp. The dual gauges are a little hard to read at speed.
