Pushing an MP62 to the limits...
Hypothetical question:
Assuming a stock '99 head and valvetrain and a more-or-less ideal exhaust system, what is the highest boost / HP that an MP62 could reasonably be expected to support, within the constraints of blower speed & efficiency? |
|
Not enough.

C'mon Joe, just say no to huffing. Snails are faster.

Joe Perez thinking of supercharging? :eek5:

Perhaps you should speak to Mr. Whipplecharger.

Big gulp was pushing over 300whp.
A turbine would likely be cheaper to get there though |
I'd be curious to see how one did with WI sprayed directly onto the lobes. I don't think I've never heard of it actually being done just in a book.
You gonna prototype for BEGI's new system? Chris |
I've got 3gph of WI going through the throttle body into the blower and another 3gph at the outlet. No problems so far and the blower is significantly cooler relative to the valve cover. Pre-WI the blower was hotter than the valve cover.

You gonna prototype for BEGI's new system? Chris One with an MP62 and others with a 45. Supposedly it helps seal the rotors better. I intend to do it myself at some point... |

Quite a few people doing that very thing on nutz
One with an MP62 and others with a 45. Supposedly it helps seal the rotors better. I intend to do it myself at some point... Experimented with WI pre SC before installing the IC. Couldn't tell any difference and the EMU datalogs showed no boost gain at all down to 0.0 of a psi. |

Got a single 3mm nozzle pre s/c, 70/30 water /meth mix
TDR A/A I/C Now running 8 psi boost max M45 Track figs Pre I/C temps 250degF Post I/C 80degF I,ll likely be down in Austin late Sept...........if ya wanna grab a beer.. |

Anyone know his blower speed or pulley ratios? Thanks Brain for the info. What a shame the project is no longer updated. |
this is what he says about it:
When we started to tweak Big Gulp, we started with 2 pulleys. We ran the larger pulley non-intercooled and then the second smaller one once the IC system was in place. Once the car was running with no problems, we cut the larger pulley down to a size slightly smaller than the 2nd pulley. This continued until 21 PSI was reached without any problems. The advantage of this method is that with only 2 actual pulleys, if we went too far, we could always drop back a step until the problem was found and corrected. |
