That sounds good, but it's more difficult to run two pipes. Kinda like how it's more difficult to run two SC's. There's no room under the hood. The sooner the two combine, the better. That will save me trouble.

I'm well aware of the oil seal (not bearing) issues millenia SC's are cursed with. The seals go bad and oil leaks past them into the compressor. The oil is then blown out and into the motor where it's burned. From my research, nobody has successfully rebuilt one of these blowers on their own. (meaning they did the work themselves, not sending it out and paying 2K for a rebuild). So I'm not taking it apart. Every bearing in it is press fitted, THEN has glue pressure injected around the outside of the bearing. Then the passage through which the glue was injected is permanently sealed with a ball bearing pressed into it. I don't have the tooling and expertise to rebuild one of these.

That said, I'm turbocharging my car. All the SC stuff is sitting on my floor. It will wait till I finish it, or till I get another miata to put it on.

Does that mean your giving up on this?

Problem with the IHI compressors (the ones you and I have) is they are oddly shaped and really long. Their orientation makes mounting difficult as they were specifically designed for the Millenia application. On the same note though, I'd wonder if there were a way to put both on the cold side and stack them. Then you could run them into one collector immediately and pipe that to an IC etc. Minimizes complex piping throughout the engine bay. The only problem I see (and I don't have a Miata in front of me to check on) is there wouldn't be enough room on the intake side to have both units. But there isn't much over there to begin with. You'd have to move the alt down, for sure. But considering what you've done so far, that's just a simple bracket away. Other than that, it looks like the oil filter could possibly clear (but changing the oil might result in suicide) and AC piping. With all the custom apps I've seen on cars before, that doesn't seem too unfeasible.

I understand you're move though. You'd spend a lot more time planning, keeping you from getting it all done to enjoy it. I'd encourage you to see it through though. This is very interesting.

Also, I'd love to see a twin MP45 setup. Those are tiny little blowers and someone could get away with so much more... Like oil issues. You could do everything I just mentioned above and get plenty of power and torque. Since intercooling is an option, I don't see any reason to avoid this for a twinscrew design. No matter how cool that'd be. You could probably find someone selling their 45's on other Miata boards. It'd be like having an M90, but without all the size. Dare I say you could hide one blower under the other and surprise a few chaps.

That was an awesome effort Pat, you will be remembered for sure.

I wanted to stack them, but it wasn't possible. The subfame, car, and motor are in the way. Only way it would work is putting one on each side. Might could stack them on the hotside if you removed P/S and A/C, and a few other things, and had a custom header. But I am keeping those items so that was no option for me.

Yes I'm giving up. For now. I took all that stuff off and it's sitting on my floor. Ordered a turbocharger and am moving forward with that. I would like to get a 94' miata one day and put the SC's on it, strip it, and make it a weekend car fair weather only kinda car. It would be better suited for that type of car than a DD.

If I had to do it again, I would pony up a lot of money and buy a 1.6-1.8L Twin screw SC from the get go. Much easier to install, and then you have the blower to make the power. A pair of M45's would be a waste. Still a roots, and all the extra complexity for little gains. M90 would be a thousand times easier and give the same results.

Yeah, I guess. But it'd still be cool.

Turbo is easier, simpler, probably more reliable. But the coolness of twin SC outweighs it.

Don't discard what you have already done, you may go back to it someday.

Fixed...;)
