I went supercharger because I live in California, and have a 2000 Miata. No CARB approved turbo's. After pestering Stephanie @ Bell for 2 years without success, I searched the CARB website for any boost. I had two choices, an M45, or the FFS Coldside.

I went with FFS (no choice really), and can't be happier. The kit was complete. The support excellent. I look forward to when the TVS900 is available, the same efficiency as a twin screw without the preheating.

In my opinion, both superchargers and turbos make Miata's a lot more fun, but both have limitations. I see the comparisons on dyno's. If turbos have the same dyno curves, do they perform the same in real world? How do cars with similar boost levels compare in autocross? How do cars with similar levels of HP do?

still need to drive turbo and itb to make my decision... was thinking turbo but bought a local used mp62 kit when it came up for sale. i love it now but had to change a bunch of things (4-rib to 6-rib, fuel piggy, AAIC) so its pretty expensive for 7.5 psi. for starters i would've got a 99 or 00 instead of an 01 miata!

I've had both and sold both and now am back to an S/C car. Uber w/Link, I think it is a lot of fun as a sort of hoodlum toy. I think I would prefer a properly sized turbo as a daily driver but as a weekend toy the Uber fits the bill.

Default S/c for smooth power seemless transition

I have had two cars with S/C. The first was a'94 with a hotside m45, my set up now is an FFS coldside with E-cool & timing control 11lb boost 198WHP 172 #torque.

I like the S/C torque curve starts at 2500 rpm and is constant to redline.
Great for autocross, not the best for dragstrip.

My exhaust is 2 1/2" flyin miata mid, Borla duel touring. To me it sounds good not too loud cruising, sounds great at wot!!

Best to try both before you buy.
If you are near the west coast Fl, come on down & drive mine for the supercharged, and I'm sure we can scare up a turbo car around the same power level for you to try side by side.

All I know is that at WOT that 'charger whine is sweet music!!!

I just finished my first turbo project on my 96 daily driver. I went turbo because I'm 20 and I need all the support from more experienced guys that I can get and thats easier to find for turbos. Also, I was really empressed with BEGi.

Agent,
No the SW FL Miata club. Mostly a "ride to eat" older couples club. Not many interested in High Performance. only 4 S/C, &3 Mazdaspeeds.
I live in Port Charlotte where Joe Perez lives.
Come on down if you want to drive a good runnin' coldside! 198.3 WHP 172 # torque, 11PSI. Soon to be 14PSI.

@Agent: and how much torque where?
I was under the assumption that while a solid SC can almost match the whp output of a medium turbo car (up to ~ 230rwhp) they never reach the torque output of them (mine has 250lbs/ft crank torque at around 4krpm)

I'm at 11psi-ish as well. Obviously, at high RPMS I spike to about 13psi. I'm making about 207rwhp and 179ft/lbs. There is a bit more there, but I haven't had time to really pull it out. I was hoping maybe to bribe (dinner, beer, etc...) Joe to tune my car. lol.

I've got an 04 with the JRSC M45 kit. Had it for about 2 years and 30k miles with no issues. Added a 62.5mm nose pulley, 155mm crank overlay, TDR FMIC and DDM Works cold air box. Borla single tip exhaust.

It's plenty for me as my goals were 180-200whp and good driveability. I'm running 7.5 psi max and build 5psi at 2500. It's perfect for all the roads around here. I don't track mine much or autox too often, so it's just a toy to me.

Granted, there's probably cheaper ways to do it, but I like the way the SC feels and haven't had to do anything to it since I got it installed. No tweaking, no extra tuning, no nothing. Just get in and drive.

I've had a 90 BEGI system 3, 99 with FMII, and a 94 with JRSC. The JRSC feels like hamsters after the others, even the BEGI only running 8 pounds of boost. But I got the car for $1000, so I couldn't exactly complain. Doing it over, I'd go back to turbo.
