Just wondering if the left and right 1.6L diff stubs (aka tulips/output shafts) are identical?

In case it matters, this is on a 1991 OPEN diff.

I had my diff apart today and put it back in the car and then noticed that the one stub isn't all the way in and despite my best efforts I couldn't get it to seat completely. it's sticking out about 1/4" from where it should be sitting.

Any help would be appreciated.
