I just want all you knuckleheads to buy 3.3s so that maybe I can get into a set of 3.6s on the cheap. ;)

:loser: I only use 2nd gear with the 4:10. But with these gears I could use 2nd gear of a 6 speed and run ALLOFIT.

18psi 11-12-2013 11:47 PM

all this talk of allofit when bob keeps popping 6speeds on track with a 3.6 and 350whp lol....in for lots of broken 6speeds

but I'm seriously tempted to get these......ugh

MiataRoadster 11-13-2013 11:29 AM

I'm building a list to see how many sets people want so far.

So I can cross-reference between real names from Facebook and silly forum names here and get an accurate count, please email me @ Bill@MiataRoadster.com with: the # of sets you want, your full name, shipping address, and phone #.

Details will be announced formally later this week.

Thanks,
Bill

I have to think above 300whp you're going to pick up some significant overall acceleration compared to stock gearing with a 6 speed. 3.90s are great with 100hp, but as power increases you're really rowing though the gears. Maybe it's different for all out track cars, but these seem like a great idea for those of us who spend most of our time on the street.

I think for me it would only help first and second gear for street driving and maybe autocross. on tracks it would make 6th gear not so useful I think. My car on some tracks would like the 3.909 and others like the 3.636. I think to really use 6th with the 3.308 you would really need over 400rwhp to push the speeds achievable. The hp needed per speed starts getting real non-linear in the 140 to 160mph range, gearing the car to go 180 is not going to make it faster. I also don't care about highway cruising gear.

the 3.308 to me is interesting because it might make some other transmission work that might be light and strong. I don't know what one that would be however. The stock six speed has 4 track useable gears I would be slower with less. A 5 speed Jerico maybe.

Preluding 11-14-2013 08:15 AM

I'm pro 3.3s because I care about cruising speeds and rev'ing past 4-4.5k while cruising is plain annoying and pointless....bringing that entire range down ~1k would be amazing and make the car a more livable vehicle. (I have 4.10s now in the MSM)

Leafy 11-14-2013 08:24 AM

Do we know what the group buy price difference is going to be? Thats what stopping me now. I dont have any need for these gears until next off season, but if the price difference is going to be significant I'll buy them now and sit on them.

Amellrotts 11-14-2013 08:40 AM

Leafy, it is on the FB link.....
"MiataRoadster tentatively, $525 + $15 domestic shipping = $540"

fooger03 11-14-2013 08:42 AM

Maybe one day we'll see a 1.6:1 ratio...You can't blow up 4th gear in a 6 speed if you're only using 1 through 3!!!

Leafy 11-14-2013 08:43 AM

Yes, but what will the normal price be.

Perhaps there are uses for a Miata not on a racetrack.

Yeah, what makes this R&P attractive to me is that it would let me drop in a bolt in tranny solution that can take 300ftlbs reliably and end up with a 2nd gear that makes sense.

05pearl 11-14-2013 09:10 AM

I know it sucks to have to cough up $540 for a lot of people. Believe me, I don't want to sink any more money into my car, but I'm going to do it for these gears. Leafy, I know you want to wait, as well as others. But, if Bill can't get 15 people on board - no one gets any 3.308s - EVER.

For me, it makes entire sense throughout the gear range. I can take off from a start without spinning and I can cruise on the highway at 3000 instead of 3800. As I said, this would truly complete my set up for what I want out of the car - a fast, sleeper street car, powerful with great handling.

I'm begging you guys - whoever is serious about getting these, please get them now. I don't want to have to do some huge hybrid trans swap in the future to be able to do what these gears can do for me, for a LOT less time and $$$.

If you are that deep into plans, get two and sell the extra one later on, to make sure the project gets rolling.
You will probably not loose more than $100 (if you will loose at all) reselling a new set.
