If you are that deep into plans, get two and sell the extra one later on, to make sure the project gets rolling.
You will probably not loose more than $100 (if you will loose at all) reselling a new set. |
Hybrid trans???
I figured the other option would be an 8.8 swap with a proper gear ratio. |

So, David, you can RELAX! I'm coordinating with Weir to make available his solid pinion spacers (AKA billet distance pieces). Once that's arranged, I'll start a new thread announcing that I'm taking orders. Thanks for your interest! |
Thanks Bill

I posted this little chart I made in Bob's blown-up 6 speed thread already but it shows a 3.3 with a Miata 6 speed. As mentioned, you are going to need some serious WHP to make 6th remotely useful as a top speed gear not to mention, where the hell would you use it?
I was shocked how close it makes a 6 speed to the gears of 5 speed with a 4.1 but with a crazy overdrive gear if you are cruising in a street car. Anyone have thoughts on the usefulness of this gear spacing on the track and what kind of power and torque curve you would need to have it make sense with the wider spaces? https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1384671693 |

Comparing the 6+3.3 and 5+4.1 the speeds where you shift will be very similar, but the rpm drop will be much less with the 6+3.3 (exactly the same as for any combination with the 6sp :)) so you will spend much more time in a shorter rpm range. |

Bill asked me to include the 3.3 numbers with a 5 speed. This is just the FM gear calculator typed into a spreadsheet for a screen shot. Assume 225/45/15 tires 23.0" tall.

5th gear pulls will be that much more terrifying
