You will probably not loose more than $100 (if you will loose at all) reselling a new set.

If Bill ends up that close to 15, then that makes sense. But, we still need some takers in any case.

Hybrid trans???

I figured the other option would be an 8.8 swap with a proper gear ratio.

Poor choice of wording I suppose. I simply meant "much more time and $$" to get to where the 3.308 would put me, relatively easily.

From just my teaser on FB and this preliminary thread, I've seen at least 20 "yes" and "maybe" responses, so I think we'll be in good shape once I get the word out on the rest of the forums.

So, David, you can RELAX!

I'm coordinating with Weir to make available his solid pinion spacers (AKA billet distance pieces).

Once that's arranged, I'll start a new thread announcing that I'm taking orders.

Thanks for your interest!

I posted this little chart I made in Bob's blown-up 6 speed thread already but it shows a 3.3 with a Miata 6 speed. As mentioned, you are going to need some serious WHP to make 6th remotely useful as a top speed gear not to mention, where the hell would you use it?

I was shocked how close it makes a 6 speed to the gears of 5 speed with a 4.1 but with a crazy overdrive gear if you are cruising in a street car. Anyone have thoughts on the usefulness of this gear spacing on the track and what kind of power and torque curve you would need to have it make sense with the wider spaces?

There is a difference between changing the final ratio and a tighter spaced box.
Comparing the 6+3.3 and 5+4.1 the speeds where you shift will be very similar, but the rpm drop will be much less with the 6+3.3 (exactly the same as for any combination with the 6sp :)) so you will spend much more time in a shorter rpm range.

Bill asked me to include the 3.3 numbers with a 5 speed. This is just the FM gear calculator typed into a spreadsheet for a screen shot. Assume 225/45/15 tires 23.0" tall.

5th gear pulls will be that much more terrifying

I never reach the speeds in your chart in 1st and 2nd because I just spin, if I try to get anywhere close to upper rpms in a reasonable amount of time. 6th gear at 80mph cruising along on the freeway should be pretty nice, as far as I can tell. At my power level, the 3.308 appears to be just about perfect.
