Default 363 gears MPG?

I want better gas mileage. Some on here have had 363 gears. But the motors seem to have been built to the hilt.
Does anyone have 363 gears in a car with a stock motor, or stock motor turboed?

And what gas mileage do you get?

I know a guy that has a couple of Miatas. He was driving 50 miles each way to work. For his DD Miata he put a 3.63 rear end in a 1.6 Miata with a 6 speed and a hard top and was getting close to 40 mpg on the interstate. IIRC, it was about 38. It was a pooch but the 6 speed helped get it going a bit.

Before anyone says that he wasted the gears and 6 speed, the DD is just a place holder and better than the parts sitting in the garage. Basically mobile storage for his autox car spare parts.

Great idea. Spend $400 for a new ring and pinion and $200 in labor to save a few pennies a gallon. It'll pay for titself in 40,000 miles!

YOU ARE THE MAN AGAIN!!!!!
I have boost to make up for the lugging.

I have seriously been thinking of going TDI. Just to get the 55 mpg some people are getting with a upgraded turbo and custom tune.

But if I can ge 40 with a miata.....Why switch from perfection....

Dude, your woman would be mad if I didn't have enough gas to come see her.

For real though. I'm driving to Austin a lot. And my car has a fresh Jdm, and mild race prepped. I hate to sell it for a TDI. That would be enough to float me if oil prices soared.

And it is paid for......

10mpg extra yah right. BTW I have a 363 with 6 speed. Sorry I can't give you data though because that combo came along with 300+ horsepower and miscellaneous long idles where I have to futz with stuff.

As for the TDI do a ROI analysis. MPG takes a while to make a real impact on your wallet.

Come on man tune your AFRs for lean cruise. And I suppose advance your cruise timing a lot too.

You paid for a cryo treated rear end which will never pay for itself.

I mean of all the people to question someone's bang for the buck purchase!

I'm getting 27mpg in the track car with the 400lb trailer driving 80-90mph to and from the track. I almost made this thread yesterday considering I have a 6/3.63 in the garage as "spares" for the turbo car.

You can compare the ratios with the FM calculator, but I'll tell you that 1-5 will be tighter than a 5/4.30, then 6th gear on top is big.

You don't need a spare, sell a set.

The rear was ACTUALLY supposed to have my clutch diff put into it but someone fucked it up and put the torsen in there. The whole point of the damn cryo treat was to launch it without splosions. I am thinking about starting the diff build over :( The torsen does work but again, I hesitate to launch it.
