Bilstein differences?

I am thinking about putting bilsteins on my car with my FM springs. I know 10AE's came with yellow ones, but are there differences between the shocks? Does anybody have a listing of bilsteins by year/ model Miata? Does anybody know spring rates on "Hard S" suspension vs base model? I'm not a suspension guru, so I am not on the up when it comes to shocks. Right now I have Koni Str-T shocks on my car with FM springs, I can't say I'm a huge fan of the shocks. I don't hate them, but I would like to find something also non adjustable that would work better for me.
Thanks.

Yes this has been discussed a metric ton dude. Seriously, stop being lazy.

*edit: you want hard-s, not hd.

So 99+ "sport" or SE or the 10ae billies

Think they'll work just fine? Or will they need revalving?

18psi 06-03-2013 05:54 PM

I was pondering the same thing before I got my Tokicos.

Considering there's some that run them with 400/350 rates or something like that, they'll probably be fine.

Way better then your garbage STRT that's for sure.

I just acquired a set of yellow bilsteins said to be from an NB1. They are STIFF. I can hardly compress them. I'd like to run these with my FM springs, but the shocks seem really stiff. Should I, and if so, where would I get these revalved?

You don't need to revalve em for the FM springs. That's a waste of time and money.
Stop being a vagina and put them on already.

thirdgen 07-01-2013 02:52 PM

Lol @ already!! I just got em on Saturday!
Since you're always the first responder, Vlad, you wouldn't happen to know what spring rates these shocks were used with from the factory, would ya?

high 100's to low 200's front and low to high 100's rear is what the sport suspension uses

meaning when you go to low 300 mid 200 that is the FM rates the change is nowhere near enough to warrant re-valving. normally people that revalve run at least 400+ up front and 300+ out back.
(and knowing how ridiculously cheap you are, there is NO WAY you'll pay $650-$1200 that it costs)

I have a whole thread on this, with a ton of specs and info posted. search n00b

Thanks Vlad...again.
Link to your suspension thread?

We're running a 500/400 sport setup on our track car and we're just starting to reach the limit of the stock valving on a few corners with RA-1s on. It takes a lot.
