Brake master cylinder brace = WIN
1 Attachment(s)
I've had the Carbing FSTB for well over a year now and just reinstalled the master cylinder brace it came with. :bowrofl:
The pedal is MUCH firmer with it. Less travel to grab, less travel to brake. Really nice. The idea is like this: http://www.carbing.co.jp/english/pro...ercylinder.gif This is an old pic without it, but you get the idea: |
Sweet, this is one of the MANY things we are doing to Savington's car while its down. But we will be fabbing our own using an old strut tower bar bracket.

I have one in too, but I probably need to upgrade my brakes in order to feel any effect from it.
|
I have the mazdaspeed 3 point bar. it had that brace on the right hand side. I cut and welded it to the left side (WITH MY MIG JOE PEREZ!!) and now it's awesome.

Any pictures of the braces mentioned?
|
That's one of the few things I like about that guy with the weird hair and the puke colored miata, he welded the shock tower brace in. There's a lot of fle in it since it's not really sitting on anything flat. I drilled a hole and put a bolt with a couple nuts for a MC brace, but it still flexes a bit on the shock bolts. It did help quite a bit though.
|
I have the mazdaspeed strut bar in my car, and all id have to do is drill a hole through it and double nut a bolt against the master cylinder. Done.
|
Does anyone currently offer a stand-alone master cylinder brace? I've been thinking about making one up, but I don't know if there is already anything on the market.
|
The one in my car is standalone, but I bought it used and have no idea of its origins.
Spooky - I have it pretty well butted up against the MC, maybe I ought to try harder. :) Brakes are pretty freshly bled. Maybe I just can't tell the difference? |
Interesting. I'll have to see what I can come up with.

Had new MC, new caliper, new rotos, new pads and round the clock bleeding: result was reasonable but not wow. Just reinstalled brace: WIN.
|
not to be picky, but for those of us who have never seen the brace, that's a pretty small picture and isn't zoomed on the business end.
I'm asking be cause I can't find a string to search for that produces pictures. This websites search function doesn't discriminate between words. If I search "master cylinder brace" i get every thread with master, cylinder, brace or any combo of the words. |
Use quotes around your words, it's supposed to work but I'm pretty sure I've tried it before and it doesn't always work. There was a thread about new search features a while ago, I could be doing it wrong.
Anyways, the search is pointless, its a bolt pushed up against the master cylinder. Some people use a little nylon spacer supposedly to protect the master cylinder from damage, but I've been using a bolt out of my hardware drawer for years and it's fine. Here's a pic on FM's site from their 2nd super four challenge car. That's all it really needs to be, a bolt against the mc. Flyin' Miata : Supertuner Challenge : The event |
That's a good picture. Mine is from the Carbing brace with a slight adjustment (14mm socket as spacer). Ill take pictures today if I don't forget :)
