Default Chance to buy a 6 speed

I got a hook on a 6 speed from a 2000. Not a lot of info available on it. It is from an auto body shop that is parting out a crashed miata. Car had 105,000 miles on it. Talked them down to $250 for it, from all my research if this thing actually works it seems like a steal? Anything I should worry about/look at on the tranny before i purchase it? It supposedly worked before the car was crashed. Seems like a reasonable risk for a 6 speed at this price?

This will be my first time buying a 6 speed and am a bit nervous about buying an unknown tranny from a wrecked car. Only dealt with 5 speeds before. Any tips would be greatly appreciated

$250 for a working 6 speed is a good deal. Make sure you get the shift from the car also with it.

I thought the only nb1 with a 6spd was the 99 10ae, nothing in ‘00. Granted it’s could have been swapped or they could be mistaken on the year, but also make sure it’s actually a 6-speed visually.

With higher mileage transmissions, plan on scrubbing the case a LOT, some crunchy gears, seeping cases, and broken wires on some speed sensors, reverse switch, and/or neutral switch.

good fluid, output shaft, and Miata roadster shifter should be on your list for any transmission swap.

Do any shifters swap or are the respective for 5/6 speeds?

You'll want an NB1 6 speed shifter for a NB1 6 speed trans. It's very different than the NB2 shifter and different enough from the 5 speed shifter to not work properly IMO.

99-02ish 6-speeds should be the same. From MR's site:
We’ve determined that Mazda changed the design of the 6-speed transmission somewhere in between the 2001 and 2002 model years. So if you have a 2001-2002 6-speed, please check your VIN before ordering a shifter kit because the contents vary. If the last six digits of your VIN are below 220739, order the kit for 1999-2001. If the last six digits of your VIN are above 220738, order the kit for 2002-2005.

True. We should probably be calling them early and late 6 speeds.

If it doesn't come with a shifter, hit me up, I've got a NB1 stock shifter sitting in box.

Get the **** out of my sight.

99-02ish 6-speeds should be the same. From MR's site:
Split is mid-year 01.
