I had my vmaxx classics at a very reasonable ride height, and they were pretty rough over road imperfections, and felt overdampened/stiff/uncomfortable.

Then when I drove them in anger, they felt under sprung and too soft.

I know very little about suspension but this to me seemed like fail/fail. If I'm gonna have mushy suspension, it better at least be comfy on bad roads. If I'm gonna rattle my kidneys with stiff suspension, it better handle amazing.

 

Don't buy the parts through Ebay. I didn't.

 

If only there were a thread somewhere with like 700 posts telling you exactly how to put together a DIY Bilstein setup...

Yesterday I installed a slightly used set of KW V1's and I am very impressed. Me and my mechanic went for a ride on slightly rough roads around his shop and were amazed how good these handled the bumps with two of us in it.
I set the car slightly high and compromised the springs (no stiffness adjustment) because of my driveway and shitty city roads but for now as I said I am very pleased with the ride quality.

 

Don't forget about the $250 an hour consulting fee. I should charge for this...
