Default Custom Axles: Taylor Racing Eng.

I've been talking to Mr. Young at Taylor and I'm having some Chromoly 4340 axles made up w/ upgraded CVs and didn't know if other people might be interested.

For a "Group Buy" we would need 10 sets made.

I have a 3.9 torsen with the smaller 2 piece bolt flange.

Normal pricing is around the $485-495 each and with the lot of 10 sets we would be looking at about $425 each.

Let me know what you guys think!

Taylor race makes good stuff. Bit to rich for me. Would be nice to have their tulips at the inner CV for people who run below 4.5" pinch weld height in the back and dont want to break axles on the launch. Or just slightly longer axles.

Are you saying these only work with the 94-95 stub axles in the diff?

$425 for a set sounds too cheap for Taylor race.

Yup these will fit only the 1.8 diff, with the smaller stub bolt pattern since I wanted the smallest dia and weight possible.

Price is per each axle, but should be the last pair you need to buy. On the bright side these are cheaper than 300m axles!

I'm planning on running these on my 400whp+ play toy.

Ahhhh..... Yeah, lets put $900 worth of 400+hp axles into a diff known to break at ~90hp.

Torsens dont, but 1.6 opens and viscous do, no torsen available in the useless 6" ring gear.

I don't know what year my diff came out of but it's a torsen with with the smaller bolt pattern and smaller dia axle "rod". When come paired to my 3.6 torsion with 1 piece axles.

Stop and figure out what **** you have. There are 5 different axles setups (besides abs stuff) that have been in miatas. The 1.6 had different stub shafts (and maybe different axles) between open and viscious diffs. The 94-95 are the start of the diff that dont break as easily and those are all the same with stub shafts. 96-05 are basically all the same, exactly the same as the 94-95 except they're 1 piece axles. The MSM had 1 piece axles as well and they're larger and should be strong enough for a 400hp, only maybe breaking occasionally. Where as a 300-400hp car with 275 slicks would be breaking 1 or 2 standard axles per auto-x season, and only on the pro-solo drag launches. I wouldnt even worry about it in a track car.

There is a difference between the Mazdaspeed and regular 1.8 diffs. The splines are beefier at the diff end of the axle on the Mazdaspeed cars. That is probably what you mean.

The 1.6 diff is only good for adding to one's scrap collection. The ring and pinion gears are very weak.

From your what you're saying it's a 94-95 diff then....Did they have a torsen for those years? I'm newer to Miata's and purchased the car with 2 diffs and axle setups.

3.6 torsion with one piece axles and a 3.9 with 2 piece axles.

It's def not MSM and not 1 piece, so that doesn't leave much else to choose from based on what you listed above.

I'm doing this upgrade to my SSM miata, so it will see some abuse.

They had torsens in those years. 2 piece axles came in 1.8 diffs in 94 and part way through 95. After that they all came with 1 piece axles.

1 piece and 2 piece 1.8 axles are interchangeable in all 1.8 diffs other than the Mazdaspeed's diff. They have their own specific axle.

I hope that clears that up.

Most turbo applications are going to want 1 piece axles for the clearance for 3" exhaust.

My exhaust dumps before the dif, but your point does make sense.
