Differential Type ??

I was wondering if anyone know what type of diff I got here. It acts like open but it doesn't look like one. Is this Torsen ?? Thanks Sean

If it acts like an open it is an open.
Can't tell anything from pictures |
Torsen type 2 (NB)

Well, I never actually ran it so I'm not sure how it acts. But just by turning it using my half shafts I can turn one side freely like open. I was told by another person torsen acts like open when it's not under load.
Also most of opens I have seen looks like this, https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1367288226 I will take some better pictures to night. |
Na had
-Open -Viscous -Torsen type 1 Nb had -Open -Fuji -Torsen type 2 You have a type 2 |

Cool, It's supposed to be torsen, but I was't sure since It was acting like that.
is it better than Fuji or not ?? And this one is fuji correct ? https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1367288924 |
Torsen Type 1 and Type 2 will behave like an open diff without load
Don't know if it's better or worst, I've never driven the fuji but since the fuji is a clutch type it will probably need maintenance. The Torsen, on the other side, will not. I don't know the bias differences... Yes this is a Fuji |
Cool Deal thanks.
Now gotta figure out a price for them, and put them for sale. They are too nice to take apart to install my 3.6 on them. |
So you're gonna sell a diff without confirming what it is and how many miles it has, just based only on what it looks like?
What if its not a Torsen 2? What if its high miles? Or abused? Looks like you got it at pick-n-pull because it still has the tag on it, and are trying to flip it for a profit. Is that the case? Ugh |
looks like you have yourself a type 2 torsen. should be 4.30 if from 99-03
|
99-02 6spd had a Torsen and a 3.9 gear.
04-05 6spd were 4.1 5spd cars had 4.3 IIRC The T-F diff is not a full clutch type. It has a clutch cone and some torque sensing character to it, I do not know all of the details on it. S2Ks use the same T-F diff IIRC. Some were known to fail, but the T-F being a bad design is way over blown. I don't know what you have now, but if you have a 3.6 R&P, the T2 would work just fine on it. What are you looking for that you'd rather not take that diff apart? |

Fae ran one for ages as well and the Ring & pinion broke before the diff. If he didn't break it, it's bulletproof. |

Ugh I picked these up with the 6 speed swaps I got, one for my pitcrew and one for race project I'm building. I have an invoice showing the cars had 87K and 101K on them.I already picked up a 3.6 Gear setup from member here so no need to take a apart nice 3.9 setup and istall that specially since I'm using my 2 way. so don't just assume things sir. Thanks |

I just wasn't sure what I got, and yard just says they are LSD and it's not like they open the diffs and see what's inside. They just go by the VIN number. I found out the hard way that I couldn't just install my 96 torsen in my 91 so I ended up getting complete package from them. I have to take them apart and count the pinion to be sure if they are actually 3.9 or 4.3 since I only counted the ring and it's 43. |

I Picked up my 3.6 set from Samnavy here last year and never used them. I got a Cusco RS 2way so I'm going to swap both of them in a open diff since I have to pay someone to install the 3.6 properly.
