Driveshaft Slinging Grease Question
First...this is a V8 Roadsters driveshaft for my LFX Swap and it looks like this. (picture from before I put it in the car) Driveshaft has under 1000 street miles on it and 8 track days, so fairly new still.
Don't mind the short bolts in this picture (they were what originally came from V8R) But better picture of the "cover" etc.
I was checking nuts and bolts for tightness under the car before my next track day and came across a couple finger tight driveshaft to spacer bolts. I'll fix that with blue loctite and torque them again to 15 ft lbs. (This is top of range I got from V8R -> 12-15 ft lbs)
(YIKES! 3 of them I could turn with my fingers and none of them were tight)
What concerns me is all the grease I also found that slung out of the driveshaft. My guess is that because the bolts were loose, the front seal on the CV joint pushed grease out? You can see grease on the spacer where it was slinging away from it & I circled the little wall of grease on the side of the tunnel too. (there is grease across the top and on the other side too, but this was the heaviest.)
Thoughts on if this is something I need to repack with grease / need a new seal for the CV joint (not sure if you can buy just that) or if it was a little over packed / loose bolts and I got it hot for the first time and it vented / I can just retighten the bolts and send :-) (Note: I got the car pretty hot and slung grease out of the front wheel bearings at Barber in June...which was the last time the car was basically driven, guessing I did this at the same time??)
Since I know little to nothing about CV Joints & how much grease is inside them, and pulling this driveshaft out is going to possibly require me to loosen the diff or rear subframe, I appreciate the input.
Thanks for the help!
