Goodwin V3 friction ring replacement
Hi all,
I'm looking for replacement friction ring for my goodwin V3 kit. Does anyone know if coleman has done some before and would have the part#? I don't have any ring now has I bought the kit used, so I can't send them the used part to get new ones. Goodwin racing and RacingBrakes both discontinued the product so I'm looking for an alternative. Thanks a lot |
Alternative: 11.75" V2 BBK @ Trackspeed

You laugh but I'm in the same boat and was considering the 11.75's... 'cept I'd also need a new set of 6UL 15x8's and tires... It never ends.

Hey Dravas V3 front friction rings have been superseded by the V4 front friction rings. Order the V4 rings HERE and you'll be sent new hats free of charge to complete the upgrade, let us know in your order notes you have a V3 kit.
V3 rear rotors are still available HERE and they are also compatible with Sport rear brakes. Nice way to upgrade your rear sport package to a two piece rotor. |

It makes sense to upgrade to something where the rotors are going to be obtainable easily and inexpensively, IMO.
The following is of course all things that you know, but for clarity purposes for those following along... The wilwood standard rotors are straight-vane, made in China, low-cost rotors. Easy to acquire, easy on the wallet. Not comparable to a high-grade motorsports rotor though. The approach with the GWR BBK was to offer the most bitchin' rotor possible - hence, on Version 4 of the rotor now (10 attachment points, kangaroo paw "vanes", ideal iron composition), and most owners get many, many years out of one set of rotors and we've had zero reports of rotor coning, premature failures, etc. that are far more possible with budget rotors. There IS a high-quality replacement for the wilwood 8-bolt 11.75" friction ring. It's from PFC and it's ~$200 per ring. That is an apples to apples comparison with the V4 friction rings from DBA. Obviously, rotor diameter differences apply. -Ryan |

Do not assume that a rotor is crap because it doesn't cost $200. |
Ah yes, I'm referring to the UL32, not the HD36 rotor. Will edit above post.
Agreed, the price to performance ratio of the standard wilwood 11.75" rotor is unbeatable, and a large factor in that is production quantity. I wonder what applications that rotor is so widely used in as opposed to the 11" rotor for example which is approx. double the cost... -Ryan |

That makes sense. Much of the Wilwood line is aimed at stock/dirt/oval racing, and successfully re-purposed to sports car uses.
DBA's kangaroo paw vanes are something I recently looked into because I was curious about them myself. Pretty cool: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1431390625 |
That's a cherry-picked straight vane, but yes, the DBA rotors are very good :)

If I don't find a cheap way to get rotor I might consider an upgrade to 11.75 as it is the same price as replacement dba rotors.
Still unsure because dba rotors look fabulous and I'm only doing week-end track days with a 2100lbs N/A 1.8 miata so those seems to live longer than wilwood ones. I don't think I need the extra size and weight of the 11,75... but in long term it may become better in term of cost. Will have to sleep (and read) on that one. |
If only someone (me) had a 11.75" upgrade kit for sale (cheap) in the classifieds...
|
What about 15" wheel fitment over the 11.75"
Can I assume all wheels that fit over the 11" will fit over the 11.75" ? |

What about the requisite longer studs?
|
I've done lots and lots of track days with our gen1 11.75" kit, 5mm spacers, and stock studs. The Gen2 rotor hat adds a bit more thread engagement over the gen1 + 5mm setup. If you want longer studs, those are available too.
|
Is there a template available for the 11.75" to see if they would fit my wheel?
I understand that you offer a 50$ rebate if you check that for me but I'm from Canada so it would not be a hell of a deal haha! |
