Hankook RS3 vs Toyo R1R
With everything else sorted, now I'm trying to decide what rubber to go with. With everything I've read, these two tires are pretty much the best street performance / Track tire you can get in the 225/45R15 size. Now, my question is which one do I buy and why? BTW this is a no flame zone :giggle:

have they ever been directly compared? If it were me I'd get the one that's cheapest, but that's cause I'm cheap.

Price isn't really a huge deal with me. I'm more worried about having the more capable tire....if its a huge price difference obviously I would probably go with the cheaper tire but I think that they are within $15/tire of each other though

I can't comment on the other, but I do love the RS3's for a DD tire. Supposed to be very capable for a track day tire. I only have about 3K miles on mine at about 200 whp but they hooked well ( I could roll on in first and bang second and they stuck) and still have the flames and logos in the tread so less than 1/16" wear, probably closer to 1/32".
|
I'm going to go with the RS3's just because I've read some things and they just ended up sounding like a better tire

Must be on 15x9's that shit is stretched.

I am hoping to get a set of the rs3s soon, I have used the rs2s on a few of my cars and loved them. I am interested to see if there is any difference in them.

I just put rs3s on my car in the rear. Deft slot of grip. They are quiet too. Paid 125 shipped for one.
|
When I got my R1R's they gripped really well. I had no traction issues at all from 1st gear. As they've worn they've lost a lot of that. They're about a year old now, something around 4000 miles on them, I'm making less power than I was and I can spin well into 3rd gear. Still have thread left but will probably need replacing in another 2000 miles or so. I've got some pretty decent camber wear and drive like a jackass so I'm sure the average life expectancy would be a good bit longer than that. Not sure how they would perform against RS3's, but I'll be going with whichever is cheaper next time I buy.

what size 615s are those? |
It looks about the same stretch as the 225/45 RS3's on my 9's. When you set them flat on the ground the rim hits first but just barely, not a big stretch. And the RT-615's I'd guess are 205/50's, stack height looks about the same as the set of RT-215's that came off my car compared to the 225's.

I've driven a miata with the R1R, they are hard to break loose even with adsurb flow parts making 275rwhp.

I've been trying to research as much as possible, reading reviews, opinions, and articals and it seems they are both equal tires for the most part. I think I may end up going with the R1R for the mere fact that the tread looks sick....stupid I know, but there is nothing else that would make me choose one over the other at this point ($15/tire isn't a biggie to me).
