Riding on lowering springs is EXACTLY like riding on your bump stops all day long! Silly me, using words like that. Springs rates and valving are voodoo magic, and these "add on gadgets" known as tires are a sham. Physics also don't apply, race teams everywhere have been doing it wrong all along, they should have been jacking up their cars. The wheel gap is there because it needed that travel so they could run softer springs to make the ride in such a light car livable for most people. The stock Miata spends most of it's time on the bump stops, ideally you wouldn't even need bump stops, if you had more travel and stiffer springs to avoid blowing through all of the travel.
